When I was young, my mom brought home the most beautiful coloring book, full of exquisite illustrations. Paired with a fresh set of markers, that coloring book provided me with an escape and a powerful early creative experience.
Now, as the artist and printer behind Katie Blair Designs, I want to create that same magic with a coloring book of my own.
My goal is to create a limited edition, hand-screenprinted and hand-bound coloring book. With each page printed with an original floral illustration, the book would be a work of art in and of itself. And with a hard cover and illustrations that are brimming with possibility, it could be both a treasured keepsake and an opportunity for creative expression.
Project Details
Each 8x10-inch notebook will be hand-bound, and the hard cover will be covered in beautiful, durable book cloth. Inside, the book will feature 20 to 30 illustrations, each printed on thick, high quality paper, and each a hand-pulled screenprint.
To make these books even more special, they will be printed and bound in a limited edition of 150, and I will sign and number each of them.
Check out the photos on this page for a few of my preliminary illustrations and a digital mock-up to give you a sense of what the coloring book binding will look like.
What Will My Money Be Used For?
If my fundraising goal is met, the money will be used to purchase materials for creating these coloring books. Any funding beyond my goal will be put toward a second round of handmade coloring books to be created in 2012.

The Rewards
Ranging from notecard sets to custom screenprints -- you can see the full list in the sidebar to the right -- there's a long list of great rewards for donors at all price points. Perhaps most notably, your pledge can secure one of the finished coloring books to have for yourself. Since this will be a limited edition of only 150 books, calling dibs on one through your pledge now is the best way to make sure you're able to get one.
I hope to have rewards of floral prints or notecards in the mail by the end of September at the latest. For the coloring books, I hope to have them finished and mailed by mid-November, allowing plenty of time for them to arrive for the holidays, in case you'd like to give one as a gift.

Katie Blair Designs specializes in charming stationery and art, all screenprinted by hand by owner and artist Kate Carpenter. Each design is individually hand-pulled using water-based ink on recycled paper. A former newspaper copy editor and designer, Kate founded Katie Blair Designs in Pocatello, Idaho, and moved to Omaha, Nebraska, in June 2011.
