The Start Up follows Mike Gonzalez as he works to build his dream "The Hispanic Food Network" from nothing but an idea.
What is The Start Up?
"The Start Up” is a reality web series that tells the story of Mike Gonzalez and his partners chasing the American Dream. Mike's dream is to bring Hispanic food and culture to the entire world through the creation of a new cable channel called The Hispanic Food Network. Like so many people who've had a great idea, Mike encounters struggles, triumphs and small victories as he moves towards his goal.
Mike's start up company The Hispanic Food Network is at the crossroads. Internal struggles persist, personalities within the company clash and The Food Network is threatening to crush HFN just as it's starting to see some success.
Mike is giving himself 90 days to find an Angel investor who believes in his dream. If he can't find one HFNTV is over. See the drama as it unfolds... and see if he can reach goal.
How Hispanic Food Network Started?
Mike Gonzalez is the founder of The Hispanic Food Network. He was born and raised in Miami Florida and has always had a love for Latino food. Mike is currently an evening news anchor at the ABC affiliate in Spokane Washington.
About 3 years ago after a newscast, Mike was searching for a recipe for Mojo chicken like his mother used to make in Miami. He Googled Hispanic Food Network, thinking surely some company had captured this market.
When no such URL appeared he decided to see if the domain was available for purchase. To his shock www.hispanicfoodnetwork.com was available! From there Mike decided to approach his bosses at the tv station to help him produce a Latin Cooking Show called “En La Cocina”. The GM loved the idea but said she could not dedicate any of the station's resources to help produce the show. So Mike, with the help of his good friends Dwight Finney and Louie Flores bought video and editing equipment from pawn shops in the area and embarked on producing four pilots.
From the first show, En La Cocina (In The Kitchen) was a hit with viewers. The show now appears across the Northwest, Houston Texas and for a short time nationally on Direct TV and is currently on episode 40. See some of the clips at www.youtube.com/HFNTV.
While the show has been a success, Mike is ready to take the next step! He needs to find investors to make his dream come true and he has 90 days to do it!
What the money will be used for?
The cost of producing a high quality webseries is extremely expensive. We could hire my cousin who has a pretty cool flip phone that shoots video but that's not what we're looking for. We want to tell the story, convey our message and at the same time educate people on how they can also create a start up company. The goal of this project is not only to achieve our dream but to inspire others to reach for theirs. The relationship is definitely reciprocal when it comes to The Start Up.
How you benefit?
We've got some pretty cool rewards you can check out. Also some opportunities to be a part of company. Plus I think if you're someone who has an idea about creating a start up company, this can be a model for you on what to do and perhaps what not to do when you get started.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
