A letter to all from Brook Notary - creator of The Pulse Project
Dear Backers and Supporters,
How do we even describe how we are feeling? ...Moved...stunned…excited and inspired to deliver our absolute best!! I cannot thank our 97 backers enough!!! My dancers, Ashley, Jenn, Mahalia, Anna, Jackie and PJ, and I have been working in closed rehearsals for almost a year. We kept saying, “I think we are on to something here...” To have this amazing amount of support really makes us believe that.
Supporters are writing in asking “You tripled your goal… What next, Brook?"
The dancers, production team and I discussed just that on Friday!
We are so excited to announce that all funding beyond this point will go towards Phase 2 of production, starting with our Aerial Workshop with Master Instructor, Bill Mulholland of AiRealistic. The dancers are so excited about this training camp; they have asked us to stop their pay where it is and to use all further donations towards this incredible workshop that will be led by Bill. Please help us reach a new goal of $15,000 so that this show can literally take flight.
We are incredibly grateful and eager to bring this production to you! Thank you thank you thank you for your belief in this project, your generosity and support!!
Please continue to spread the word. It’s working!
LOVE + RESPECT
Brook Notary
Creator/Artistic Director - The PULSE Project
About The Pulse Project
Brook Notary, critically acclaimed choreographer, veteran cirque performer and De La Guarda aerialist, is creating the next must-see New York theater experience. The Pulse Project will electrify your senses with its elemental power and challenge your preconceived notions about female sensuality.
Taking the central theme of pole dance, Brook has re-envisioned this performance art as an expression of the strength, power and beauty of the female form.
The Pulse Project is currently in development. When fully realized it will be a dynamic visceral theatrical experience full of aerial theater, parkour, acrobatics and yes, pole dancing.
For the last year we have been developing material and a new movement vocabulary with a core group of six contemporary dancers. The next step is to present a showing for potential producers. The show will be Dec 8th at THEATRE 54 in New York City.
We are proud to announce that the United States Pole Dance Federation led by Wendy Traskos endorses the Pulse Project and will be promoting our show at all major US competitions. The Pulse Project has also garnered sponsorships from New York Pole Dancing, Platinum Stages and Mighty Grip.
We have an incredible team of artists behind this project, starting with the dancers: Penelope J. Armstead-WIlliams, Ashley Browne, Anna Grundstrom, Jenn Freeman, Mahalia Miner-Le Grand, Jaclyn Walsh, and Bill Mulholland.
The following highly sought after designers and creative support are ready to come on board once we have a producer: Set Design by David Korins, Lighting Design by Dans Sheehan and Stunt Coordinator Terry Notary.
For producing opportunities with The Pulse Project, please contact Laura Warner at laura@thepulseproject.com.
How You Can Help
After nearly a year of development it is time to take our first leap. But we can't do it without your support. Please help us bring this amazing theatrical experience to the stage.
Your contributions will help pay for:
Theater rental, rehearsal time, set design and construction, costume sketches and dancer pay.
What People Are Saying About The Pulse Project
"Brook Notary's Pulse Project does what all art should: take the known materials, conventions, and notions of our world, and apply new vision. The Pulse Project uses familiar images of women's bodies in motion, as directed by the male gaze, and sets them free. Her dancers seduce with strength instead of sex.
Notary's choreography offers intelligent, feminist commentary on the iconic pole-dancer image, but perhaps more importantly, does so with tremendous skill, heart, and beauty. There's no question about it; this is art with a pulse."
- Melissa Febos, author of the memoir Whip Smart
"THANK YOU for bringing this to the stage!!! You are graciously doing justice to this art form and staying true to the message about its strong feminine voice!!!"
- DJ 3, via Kickstarter
Brook was also recently interviewed by Climb and Spin's Kira Lamb, and The Pulse Project is featured on the website Pole Dance Italy in an article written by Federico Chebobjim Zazzara.
