Thank you so much for posting the update. It was an incredible moment when we got the call that the evicion was being postposed...and we got it on camera! Their fight continues but its looking alittle brighter at the moment. Will keep you updated as I get more info.

From the Latin American Working Group: The eviction has been suspended! In less than 24 hours we sent over 850 faxes to the State Department and they listened, putting enough pressure on the Colombian government to keep the community of La Toma on their land...for now. We will update this page soon with the next action you can take to support La Toma going forward. Paola - Your presence in this land rights struggle will help shine a light on a disempowering global model of economic development that benefits the few, displaces families from ancestral lands, and dispossesses these families from their livelihoods. This 21st century "saceo" is simply a PR sanitized version of the robbery of gold and silver by the Spanish in the 1500s. I admire your courage, will and desire. Taking on this project will unveil another case of government pushing around the weak. I would like to follow through with your film as documentaries ALWAYS serve as both a voice and weapon. Good job, Paola. This a super important film to be made, an untold story, and I'm always heartened by the high level of political discourse amongst the poorest Colombians. Francia Marquez Mina is a terrific person, can't wait to see and hear more from her in the full film.
