Hitchhike around, travel, immerse, traverse. Wonder how to spend our 20's. More than wonder: I'm writing a book about what I've found.

Project Description

Well G’day, this is Trevien Stanger here

And why I’m reaching out shall soon become clear

with a handful of rollicking verses

and a sackful of editing traverses

You’ll hear all about my upcoming year

------------------------------------------------------

I’m hell-bent on taking my writing farther

I’m intent on working on it much harder

And to do this I must take

Four weeks to write with no break

And that is why I’m launching this Kickstarter

-------------------------------------------------------

Kickstarter is a fundraising platform online

Through which I’m chasing your financial support so fine

To help me write a proper book

Of my stories at which you’ll want to look

And read by the wood-stove with a glass of wine

***********************************************

For each amount you give a reward you shall recieve

But only if enough of you truly do believe

that my artistic abilities

and my ancient sensibilities

Can call forth a living book to breathe

*********************************************

A book to breathe of the wilds I’ve seen

Full of stories that seethe as they beam

Lush details of faraway lands

Fire-side tales of million-night stands

That shed off your mountains like a stream

-----------------------------------------------------------

Also note that this is to be no digital ephemera

I seek real words etched in paper for your retinas

Give to you the magic of language tangible

Words to be read with fleshy mandibles

A book to behold by your mind’s living camera

*************************************************

I’m writing a road novel based on my travels

Our American myths and  how they unravel

Where is home and happiness?

What is seen and what is missed?

I’m writing a road novel of pavement, moss, and gravel

-----------------------------------------------------------

But my friends please try to comprehend

That I’m a young writer trying to begin

But in the weather of bills and rent

Under the clouds of student loans lent

I need your generous help to create the space to write in

**********************************************

With your support I’m going to do a residency

Because un-interrupted writing pollinates my propensity

To climb Mount Memory higher

To harness the creative fire

To craft you a book of appropriate density

------------------------------------------------------------

One month far out in the Oregon wilds

At my friend’s grand place upriver some miles

In a yurt by the stream

Write, eat, write, dream

I’ll be writing intensely all the while

********************************************

Your funding will help me find all the tendrils

I’ve left for us in a stack of journals

Teasing out characters

Drawing out curvatures

Of the visions I’ve seen of these worlds

----------------------------------------------------------

Be your own hero and follow your bliss

Such is the advice given but often missed

I’ve headed the wilds’ harsh shrieks

I’ve lived in hell and heaven for weeks

And the God of Experience has me convinced

***************************************************

When our young set out on vision quest

The elders set down a profound request

Go first in silence

Learn self-resilience

And report back with your very best

------------------------------------------------------

Joseph Campbell described the hero’s path one may burn

Across millennia, it reads departure, fulfillment, return

I leapt into the world’s beauty and anger

I wept in beauty and confronted danger

And I am truly ready to return

*******************************************

To you my family, my friends, my community,

Please believe me these words cut with acuity

I will honor your green gift

I will travel and live in thrift

And be thankful for you, in poetic perpetuity

Wow, you're generous! And I'm thankful! $100 gets you the books, a cd, and, upon the books completion, a second disc of the entire "2:20" book-on-tape, read by yours truly. For those of you familiar with my performance work, you'll know that I value the acoustics, the emphasis, the real-time thusness, of reading my work aloud. "2:20" will be, I can promise, a joy to listen to, either on the road or on the summer porch.

Holy Smokes! For your marvelous gift, you'll receive everything already described, plus your choice of the following: #1 I'm very interested in ancestry, in heritage, in tradition, in family stories, and the act of weaving them together. If you are so inclined, you can provide me with a family tree and some sketched information about the places and characters you hold dear, and I will craft you a narrative poem that will seek to do justice to your story. I will then produce the poem into a studio quality "broadside" that can be artfully hung in your home or office. -or- #2: If geographically possible, I will come to your home and create a Permaculture Design for you, with emphasis on mapping your place according to the "scale of permanence." Additionally, I will work with you to create a plan for your land that can maximize food production and wildlife habitat, minimize fossil fuel energy usage, and create a planting/design plan for you to pursue at your own pace and in your own style. I hold an internationally recognized Permaculture Design Certification, and I would be honored to share what I've learned with with you in exchange for you gift. Thank you!
