MOVING ON EDIT-A-THON

What is an Edit-a-thon? Think back to the days of all nighters during finals week, add the passion of global hope and hearts changed, all the while waking up to the snowy peaks of the Rocky Mountains. For 21 days, 4 documentary gurus at the top of their game in the film industry will be sitting in a room staring at computer screens with empty energy drinks all over the floor. Their hair un-kept and flying all over the place, looking like Albert Einstein, with big grins on their faces because they know that what they are making is going to inspire and instill hope on those who see what they have created.

What is being edited? MOVING ON (www.MovingOnMovie.com) is a feature-length film we have been working on for the past year to show the world that Africa is changing us and everyone who bids to enter in. We are inches away from finishing the feature length Rough Cut. You are invited to help us complete this project so we can help spread hope to the world.

What is this all about? Hope is winning for the people of Africa and we want you to experience it too! Who knew this would all start by the adoption of our daughter? Who knew that the people we work with in Uganda through our non-profit Light Gives Heat (www.lightgivesheat.org) would change us and mold us into the people that we are today? Everyone that has come on board with us as staff or volunteers has been changed and inspired by the hope we see in Africa. MOVING ON recently won Grand Prize in Panasonic's 'Shoot It, Share It' contest - it's a huge honor, check it out. ~FAQs~ Is MOVING ON a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization? YES. The film is a project of Light Gives Heat, a certified 501(c)3 non-profit organization. ALL PLEDGES ARE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE and LGH will provide a receipt for the 2011 tax year!

Where does this money go and where can it take us? All of the money (aside from Kickstarter fees/incentives) will go directly towards our 21-day MOVING ON Edit-a-thon and ensure that a rough-cut of the film will be completed by March 23rd, 2011. After the rough-edit is done, we still will have more editing, animation, music licensing/creation, and other post-production magic, but this $10,000 is part of the $25,000 Light Gives Heat is trying to raise to see a rough cut finished by the end of March 2011.

$10,000 seems like a low amount to get a rough cut of a film done... Yes, $10,000 is our Kickstarter goal, but our real needs for our MOVING ON Edit-a-thon in March 2011 are $25,000 and we will be doing other fundraising locally to help meet the additional funding goal. Up until this point, the project has been funded by gracious donors, the winnings of $20,000 through a Chase Community Giving Grant, and our initial start-up loan. The $10,000 figure is the amount we felt comfortable aiming for in Kickstarter because as you know, unless we meet our goal we don't get any of the pledges. In actuality, the $10,000 is part of a larger remaining balance of $150,000 that will allow us to fully fund the film, see it through completion, and enter it into film festivals (as well as pay back our original start-up loan). If we could generate more than $10,000 in this campaign, we would be stoked! Don't forget, with MOVING ON, we do have benefit of offering a tax-deductible receipt ;)

How and when will you get contact information to fulfill the incentives? If and when we successfully reach our deadline we get your email address. At this point, we will contact you for any relevant information. You’ll tell us what size t-shirt to send you, who you want the SUUBI necklace mailed to, and of course- who's coming to our Rough Cut Reveal night on March 23rd, 2011! We’ll send out those emails pronto, so just make sure you get back to us- the sooner we get the contact info, the sooner your prizes can ship.

Can I increase my pledge once it’s been made? YES! Once you donate to MOVING ON, you may want to change your incentive reward by increasing your pledge amount. To do so, go to Kickstarter and sign in. If you go to our campaign page, the green “Back This Project” button will have been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click it and you can enter a new amount, or choose a new incentive.

What happens if the money isn’t raised in time? This is what we’re working to avoid. If we don’t reach our goal then no exchange is made. You don’t pay and we have to find another way to fund this film- bad news all around.

Can we exceed the goal?
 YES! And honestly, we need that to happen. Again, we are just trying to get creative and the $10,000 figure is part of a $25,000 goal we have for the month of March 2011 and our MOVING ON Edit-a-thon. So, the pledges can keep on rolling in, even after our goal is met, until our deadline- February 28th.

When will the film release? We get asked all the time, and trust us when we say that we want to know a release date more than anybody! The reality is that this production has turned into something bigger and more beautiful than we anticipated - which is a good thing. Our goal is a finalized film in summer 2011 and to do the Film Festival circuit with hopes of releasing to the public in Spring/Summer 2012. This is long-term thinking, we know, but since this a collaboration, YOU can help play an essential role and the truth is WE NEED YOU!
