State of Das Horn Address

Dear Esteemed Backers,

We're making progress full speed ahead. We have started the tooling process. This is the lead up to full blown production. We've made improvements to the stand, neck strap and lip of Das Horn.

Our old neck strap was made out of solid plastic. We were concerned about the plastic tarnishing the precious Das Horn, so we decided to change the material to flexible rubber. It has smaller rings to attach it to the strap.

We tweaked the design of the top to ensure that the stainless steel band is securely attached and power prost safe. The new lip helps stabilize the stainless steel ring and enables us to add a lid further down the line.

The redesigned stand looks better and has improved functionality. Our new stand has a concave base which makes it easier to put Das Horn down, if you really have to. We've also put feet on the bottom of the stand for additional stability.

      Many an ale has had to pass my lips via a wax-lined drinking horn. Can't wait until this arrives, since my other horn must be hand washed, and can only hold cold drinx!

      On the other hand, the new lip may make the whole thing easier to clean. If there is a seam on the inside (which I believe the old design had) then it could potentially become cruddy. This looks like it has the entire inside as one piece, so liquid, being devious the way liquids can be, will not have seems to exploit.

      Having said that, I do like the idea of a snap on lid. :)

      Boo to the new lip. I have to agree with the others, it does take away from the looks. Who needs a lid anyway, I am going to be drinking out of it. The beverage that I put into it will not be there long enough to get warm, so I do not need a lid.

      Yeah, I am dissapointed in the lip change too. If I wanted durability over aesthetics I would have bought a coffee mug. This is the reason people buy wine glasses made of crystal rather then opt for more durable glass or even plastic - aesthetics. Unfortunately I wanted to display this on my bar, now with the new look it will probably be gathering dust in the back of a kitchen cabinet. I sincerely wish you luck but unfortunately with the new look I don't believe you will be able to continue selling this product outside of the kickstarter campaign. It may look better in person as you claim, however I am concerned that your further online sales would suffer because of this change.

      After reading some of the comment and not having paying attention to the little detail of the metal ring change, I tend to agree with others. I went back and looked at some of the original images of the Das Horn and I think the original one looks so much better. I like how the metal lip encompasses the inside and outside of the horn. The new version looks a bit cheaper. I had thought about getting two of these while the campaign was open, but I am glad I didn't go that route now.

      @DOVN Thanks for the well wishes. The ring is still a classy stainless steel at the top. If you look at a lot of drinking horns, there is a ring around the top, but the inside is still horn. We have looked at a lot of drinking horns, believe me! I think that when you see the real thing, you will not be disappointed.

      What a world it would be if Happy Meals came with drinking horns....

      I'm also disappointed in the lip change. Drinking horns are suppose to have metal lips (image search "drinking horn" on Google). This metal band makes the horn look cheap/gimmicky to me compared to the original. One of the reasons that I pledged is because the product looked as classy as a drinking horn could look. The new design looks like something that I would get in a happy meal or at a ball park with the purchase of a large soda. Hopefully I am an outlier. I hope it still takes off for you guys!

      @Jolyon Ansuz Thanks for the well wishes. We had a lot of debate over the lip. We think that when you see it in real life, you will find it looks much more like a finished product, and in the end better than what we had.

      I'm disappointed to see the plastic lip and not the original metal band over the lip. I don't think it looks as awesome as the original design. Otherwise, I am rather excited to see the progress and looking forward to having manufacturing start. Good luck and best wishes!
