I'm making the first monograph covering a decade of my artwork, exploring my visual vocabulary, conceptual themes, and methodology.
I’m publishing my first monograph! This book will cover a decade of artwork—that's over 40 projects exploring different visual vocabularies, conceptual themes, and various approaches to art making.
I have an eclectic art practice, working in media as varied as installation, video, drawing, fashion design, performance and public art. Most recently I have been exploring Chinese ink as a contemporary medium, painting small forests black with ink while the trees are alive and changing during the course of the project.
The monograph will include full color images of installations, videos, public and collaborative projects. Each work is accompanied by a short descriptive text. An introductory essay by Thomas Krens, Director Emeritus, Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, and a critical text by David Elliott, Artistic Director of Kiev Biennial and Biennale of Sydney, provide further context. I have also written several texts throughout the book to give a more intimate account of the art making process and connect with the reader on a more personal level.
This book is a culmination of many years of work and has been a real labor of love. The publisher, Charta, has been wonderful to work with in developing a beautiful and comprehensive book. It will be in both English and Chinese, which has made the task even more ambitious.
As my publisher and fellow book lovers noted, printed books in general are on the decline. Nevertheless, I felt compelled to work independently with a publisher I respect. As you can imagine, without gallery or other commercial backing, making an art book in the current economic climate is quite difficult. A lot of the financial burden is on me directly. I've been fortunate to raise the majority of the funds, thanks to a few very generous supporters. I am now turning to you and asking for your help with the last $8,250, to add more pages and keep some beautiful images of several projects from being cut. It will also go towards a more substantial cover.
This is the homestretch! We are so close. I hope that with your help, I will achieve the full vision for the book and share these works and ideas with you the world!
