Magpie Foods is a start up company initially conceptualized as a sustainable food truck. Sustainability in food as well as GREEN power.
Who is Magpie Foods?
Magpie Food Company is a locally owned business that will be represented as sustainable a Food Truck. Solar panels will be mounted to the roof of the truck. These panels will provide some of the power used in making the food within the truck. Hand pies will be served out of the traveling kitchen. The pies will be a creative way to utilize local and seasonal ingredients. The pies will be inexpensive, filling, and able to be eaten while walking the streets.
By reducing the costs spent on gasoline, we can provide high quality food at a lower price point. This benefits the customer as well as the environment.
The premise of the concept is sustainability. We hope that we can be the first food truck in the area to move towards harnessing green energy for our production. Using a mobile kitchen will be a way to educate customers on the uses and benefits both, of solar power and sustainable food. Locally sourced ingredients will be used in food production.
Solar panels will be attached to the roof of the truck (about 150 sq. ft). These panels will be used to charge a bank of batteries. These batteries will, in turn, help to power the appliances in the truck. By utilizing renewable resources, such as solar, we can do our part in reducing carbon emissions while feeding and educating the public.
What will the money raised be used for?
Solar panels as well as equipment and truck retrofitting, will be a total of $50,000 (or more). I am seeking funding for $30,000 of that.
-Funding for Solar Panels, batteries, control panels etc.
-Purchasing building supplies for the retrofit of the food truck.
-Funding for equipment/ appliances.
-Promotional and educative materials
The great thing about the food truck, is that it can start small and grow as the business allows.
What's good about a Green Food Truck?
The benefits of Magpie Foods "Green" Food Truck are twofold. Ideally, it is a way to present food in a fun way to customers around the Raleigh NC area. The truck will also act as a tool for educating the public on the various uses of Green power.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
There are challenges with this project. Finding the best way to integrate solar / battery power in with a gas powered generator. The project will cost well over the amount listed above. Producing educative materials will be on the agenda as well as creating a website that encompasses the Magpie Foods' GREEN Food Truck.
