It's been almost a month since AMF2011 wrapped up and I have been crazily busy, but I haven't forgotten about fulfilling everyone's orders. Today I mailed everyone who requested a reward a link to download two complete performances of pieces that were premiered at the Accidental Music Festival - Matt McCarthy's homage to Sam Rivers entitled "The Hang," and John Alvarez's musical depiction of the big bang, "In The Beginning." I am nearly finished with the video recap of the festival - I am hoping to send it out in the next 24 hours.
I would like to take a minute to give a special thanks to film director Whitney Dow, who allowed us to screen his amazing film "When the Drum is Beating," for free during the festival. We talked to other film makers about the festival and they generally asked for $500 just to play a DVD. The film tells the story of Orchestre Septentrional, a big band from Haiti that has been performing for 63 years. You have to see the film to understand how significant an achievement that is. Please check out the Kickstarter campaign for the film, which will help keep Septentrional performing and help bring "When the Drum is Beating" to PBS and theaters across the country.
Thanks again to everyone who made this year possible; it was one of the great experiences of my life. Yes, I am planning next year's festival already and I can tell you only that it is going to be much, much bigger.
