Whoa, I barely even finished sending out Kickstarter rewards for "Quito Grown," and I've learned that Earth Island Journal decided to publish my article on its website today. I just submitted my draft yesterday. Now that's what I call a quick turnaround!
Unfortunately, the editor previously forewarned me that the article would likely not make it into print. That's one of the drawbacks of pitching to a quarterly magazine. But I'm still very excited and thankful for the article's online appearance, and I'll be trying to spread the link around for as much exposure as possible. Feel free to help a sister out!
Hola amigos! I'm back from my trip to Ecuador. Only took 23 hours to return (don't get me started), and you'll soon be receiving postcards from me mailed from the United States. I was advised that if I sent them from Ecuador, "they might never get there." I had what I'll describe as "quite the experience" in Quito, which basically means it was good and not so good. Definitely a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. My journalism assignment went great and I feel inspired and invigorated by learning about the urban farming project. I'll soon be updating my blog with photos and posts!
Backers, thank you for successfully funding my “Quito Grown” project. I’ll be sure to update you as my project progresses. Your support means so much to me, I can’t even begin to explain it. But, hey, I’ll try! I don’t work for a major media outlet and I don’t have personal wealth to fund my journalism exploits. Through your help, I’m able to pursue stories I believe have some value and meaning to offer in this world. I hope you’ll recognize, with pride, when you read my published “Quito Grown” article that it wouldn’t have been written without you. You’ve also given me the means to continue on my own journey in journalism, and I’ll never forget your generosity. Ever.
