About this project

UNINSURED LA™ is a solidarity movement in Los Angeles to support health reform and stand up for the uninsured, led by a Venice-based group of artists & community volunteers. After you read this short description, please click the 'UPDATES' tab, where you'll find a short video + mockups of our campaign materials.

Our goal is to successfully support reasonable & comprehensive health care for all by creating a bold visual campaign that will allow the uninsured and underinsured to openly stand in solidarity, and by creating a simple and interesting website for everybody to learn about health care reform.

The centerpiece of the campaign is an eye-catching bumper sticker that says UNINSURED really big, and then below that, SUPPORT HEALTH CARE REFORM. All who support health reform (and hopefully get the joke) can stick it. I think people will notice.

The website UNINSUREDLA.ORG will be a place for people to find out about health care reform in California & national health care reform and for them to gather together in a virtual demonstration that will send the message on behalf of the 2.7 million people in Los Angles county whose health and bank account are at risk because they are uninsured. This gathering will also serve as a platform for further action in support of health reform in 2009.

The campaign will go live on June 27, 2009, which is a day of coordinated Organizing For American health care service & outreach projects in Los Angeles. UNINSURED LA bumper stickers & buttons will be handed out for free by volunteers. UNINSURED LA t-shirts and limited edition posters will be given to backers of the project as stated in the 'rewards' section. An UNINSUREDLA.ORG website will also go live on that day.

Help us raise the necessary funds to make our bumper stickers, buttons, t-shirts & posters and to build our website. Any additional funds gathered will go towards expanding the UNINSURED LA campaign. If funding goes well we will create an additional project to fund an UNINSURED LA Public Service Announcement (PSA) commercial.

If you live in or around Los Angeles, you are welcome to join us on June 27 as we get out the word on health care reform.

NOTE: I, Stephen Latty, the initiator of this project, will make my best effort to carry out UNINSURED LA (this project) as stated above. Anybody who contributes funds to this project via Kickstarter will agree to not hold me or any other parties taking part in this project liable or responsible if this project is not undertaken to the fund contributor’s satisfaction. Note that if we do not reach our goal of $3000, then no pledges will be collected.

Thanks for supporting our efforts to support health care reform!
