About this project

Production Announcement Artwork (Official Teaser Poster Coming Soon!)
We're starting with a great story and $15,000 dollars of personal investment. We have a talented international crew, a great regional cast, and two Panasonic ProHD camera packages. Everyone involved is giving their time and talent to make this film on a minimal budget. However, when people are working for the love of film making, it’s always nice to provide a little cushion, like hot meals and gas money. We also need to rent some equipment, purchase supplies for our makeup FX artist, etc.
Here's how you can help!!!
We are in need of $5000 to ensure the success of our production. It would be amazing to get $10,000 or even $20,000 to help with post-production, marketing costs, and maybe check off a couple of wish list scenes, which we know we can't afford right now, but we can at least get the film made with $5000.
We've got some great rewards for helping us realize our vision! Check them out!
ABOUT THE FILM
TITLE: THE NEST
SYNOPSIS:
In a sleepy beach town, several friends, down on their luck and facing eviction, meet a stranger claiming to hold a map to legendary local treasure. It had been lost at sea when a ship carrying Mayan relics capsized in a storm off the coast of the Carolinas in 1718.
Now, all they have to do to resolve their financial woes forever is get to the island and locate the booty.
However, they soon find the island is a breeding ground for the mythical alien creatures known as Chupacabras, and that their existence on the island is irrevocably tied to the treasure they've come to claim.
The story reaches its climax, with a twist ending no one will see coming....
DIRECTOR'S NOTES:
The Nest is your classic creature feature, reborn from the black lagoon, with a modern pop-culture cryptid, the Chupacabra.
Somewhere between Goonies, Paranormal Activity, and The Alien Trilogy exists this unique hybrid of horror, adventure, and science fiction in the multiverse of cinematic potentiality.
We plan on blending and interlacing cinéma vérité elements of recent films like Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity with more locked and clean cinematic stylings to achieve an over all visual aesthetic closer to Neill Blomkamp's District 9, rather than The Blair Witch Project.
We want to make sure with this project that our creatures are tangible entities in the film because computer generated creatures will never be as scary as the gruesome prosthetic monsters of 1970's and 1980's horror films.
Taking the Reptilian/Alien/Vampire/Monkey descriptions of the Chupacabra as our main inspiration, our concept and makeup FX artists have carved out a unique vision for the creature.
We first contacted our concept artist in the United Kingdom, Steve Boulter, who produced some initial creature designs.

Then, we sent the artwork to our Makeup FX artist handling the creature creation, Ben Hardie. He is a graduate of The Douglas Education Center in Monessen, Pennsylvania, where he attended horror legend Tom Savini's Makeup Effects program.
Ben has worked on several feature, short, and television projects. Most recently he completed work on George Romero's new horror anthology DeadTime Stories II.
He currently operates his own Makeup FX Studio,
"The Master of Massacre's Workshop".
Ben's primary focus for this project is the creation of the Chupacabra creature suit and eggs, applying wounds to victims, and producing a few key props.
You can get a FIRST LOOK at the creature in production below:
All other visual FX will be computer-generated imagery, or CGI, created by Josue3D out of Mexico City. I don't want to give away too much of the story by describing exactly what they will be doing for the film, but by checking out their work you can get an idea :

Also on board is Producer Matt Arnold an award winning short filmmaker. Matt has crewed on various films and television projects in Wilmington, NC. Along with his work as a producer, Matt will also be heading the lighting and grip department for this project.
Primary shooting locations are Masonboro Island, NC and Carolina Beach, NC.
The production schedule is going to be 14 days, with 10 days of principal photography and 4 days off, set between 3 primary location changes.
A secondary shoot schedule of 3-5 days may be necessary for the production of
"Wish-List" scenes, if budget permits.
We hope to produce a film with a Paranormal Activity budget range of $15,000-$30,000 and hopefully equally matched or exceeded profit potential by incorporating tangible creature effects and realistic CGI giving the audience a lot more bang for their buck, rather than just some bumps in the night.
