Hi Everybody,

Just wanted to thank everybody once again for all of the generosity and support! Some news on the progress of Dwarf Mountain Alphabet:

Tracking is underway and completed for about 60% of the album. I haven't been this excited about a batch of songs in a long time, but I think this has come as the result of having some time away from the studio the past year or so. Everything is flowing well, and the goal is to produce something unfussy, easy to listen to and energetic. Basically, whatever best serves the songs without laboring the process.

In terms of production, it's the polar opposite of My Grandfather the Cubist, which was extremely rigid and machine like, and lacking any sort of human touch other than the vocals. This record has a far lighter touch, with very light programming/sequencing and a lot more heart. DMA is the ABBA to Cubist's Kraftwerk, if that makes sense. These songs have a lot of life, with a kind of joyful melancholy serving as the backdrop.

A lot of you have asked about the synthesizers used for the album. I've made a return to using polyphonic synths, so there's going to be a lot of chordal parts and textures going on, which is another way that this record will be a progression from the last few. Everything is still 100% analog, as I'm using a small army of Moogs, Rolands and Prophets for everything. Analog sequencers are handling most of the drums, but the rest of the parts are being played and recorded manually. As soon as we have something to share....and we will....we'll let you know.

Finally...we'll send out a survey closer to shipping time to make sure addresses are current.
