Update #34 - In the Final Hours What Do I See?
Hi everyone,
just sitting and watching the pledge total is an amazing thing that warms the heart. It's been said a lot recently but we mean it for every time we've said it.
As a little surprise here we have the Cobra Mk III:
Good news on the book front C L's Elite: Chronicles project has achieved its funding and joins the ranks of upcoming Elite: Dangerous novels. Kate Russell's Mostly Harmless novel is still open and heading towards it stretch goals:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/katerussell/mostly-harmless-an-elite-dangerous-novel-working-t
And finally a shout out for Gollancz who have featured in an article on the Guardian website:

Thank you everyone!

I feel for all the people who have pledged for planet names and space station names, not to mention the book writers who won't even be able to use their character names for themselves, unless they are quick.
If the names are selectable before the Decision Forum goes up you won't even be able to discuss it.
I'd hate to spend 4 and half K and be beaten to it by someone pledging 15 !

This looks more like Anaconda Damage Cargo Hold teaser... ;).

What was the combined kickstarter + paypal final amounts?
Will paypal contributions and stretch goals still be tracked, like SC appear to be doing?
Looking forward to accelerating:

Soo looking forward to the release!
Well done to every one of my fellow pledgers that helped you to this amazing result!

Right then, I'm all done. Maximum pledge... er... pledged. Congratulations to all you guys at Frontier! Your early work was inspirational and I have no doubt you'll make a game which will be remembered for another 30 years! I sincerely hope you'll add a link on the Kickstarter main page, to continue funding ED after this Kickstarter ends (via card payment as well as Paypal). There's a lot more money out there and a lot of people that have only just heard of your Kickstarter. The more money you have to play with in development, the more epic this triumphant return will be. You'll have competition at release, I suspect (no names mentioned). Good luck, we're all praying for something beautiful. Happy Birthday David and Happy New Year to all the guys.

I really hope that one of the additional ships will be the Fer-de-Lance... ;-)
As someone who still owns the original Elite for the C-64 (with the box, the novella and everything else, even the keyboard template), I can't wait to play this game... I spend months (yes, really months) playing that game in the 80-ies. There are only a handfull of games which had close to the same impact on my spare time as Elite had (Civilization, Colonization, Doom, Descent, Quake II, 'The Patrician' and 'The Guild' series, Tropico, Freespace and the Earth 2150 Trilogy immediately come to mind - I am actually still playing most of these on a regular basis).
But Elite was (and still is) the number one when it comes to immersion into the game. Frontier was OK, but the blue sky and the (much too) realistic flight model turned me somewhat down.
Creator stevie on January 4
After telling my 9 year old boy about a game called Elite that came out when I was 10, he grabbed his IPad and searched for space sims. He found Galaxy on Fire 2 and we have both been playing that for the last year, but it lacks something that Elite and Frontier had. When I showed him this on Kickstarter he has been monitoring it for the last month, and begging for the boxed version with a star chart as soon as he read it was available. I'm guessing I had better start saving for a high end gaming PC now.
I think you may ignite a new generation of space sim fans.
Creator Andrew R Bulman on January 4
My brain is bubbling with the scope of this game, there are so many directions it could expand into that the possibilities have no frontier (pun defiantly intended).
imagine a sim earth type game where you take over one of the planets in the Elite: Dangerous universe, once you reach a sufficient tech level your game could then open up to visits from traders coming to buy your products, or how about an FPS game where you play the part of head of security at a space station running around shooting the bad guys and fighting off pirate attacks with your vipers
how about joining the space marines and orbital skydiving into a war zone for some call of duty meets alien action?
This has the potential not just for one game and a few add on packs, but the creation of a whole universe of interrelated games all feeding into each other and enhancing the experience of players across several very different types of game.
Creator Cowtango on January 4
@ Adrian Kershaw - it's just a smash in of the FFE music I recognise, plus some from the other Elite games. Needs a bit of 'cutting' :-)
Creator Chris Street on January 4
I only just found out about this - I'm so glad I did and managed to get a pledge in. The playability of the original Elite with todays graphics and procedural generation is going to be a heady brew. David, it looks truly fantastic - kudos to all of you. You might even make something distracting enough that I stop fiddling with new ideas for that Raspberry device...:-)
Creator Adrian Kershaw [£100] on January 4
@Cowtango- It shows 30 tracks, is that right?

I also think that it's great that you are taking Linux seriously (did you see Mark Shuttleworths video about Ubuntu phone, where he lays the ground with all the manufacturers who ship Ubuntu? ) and I hope it will come to fruition.
And besides that - YAY! It's gonna be made :)
Creator Adrian Kershaw [£100] on January 4
@KKAtan It will meen large expansions. For instance i assume that when they have planet landing capabilities programmed, then that would be an expansion. As it would be a huge amount of game to add as just a normal patch. Thoughs that havnt pledged £80+ would have to purchase said expansions.
I should think that small patches of content wont be classed as pay for expansion type. This is all my assumption anyhow.
Creator KKAtan on January 4
I would like to know more about these so-called expansions, and the deal at 80£ tier.
Does "any expansions" imply multiple expansions for free?
Are we talking about really big expansions or the small DLC type?
A little more information about this might have made more people interested...
But congratulations anyway. To the developers and to all the fellow backers.
Creator Matthew Hudson on January 4
Great news on taking Linux version seriously. Full kudos to the FD team for bringing this to kickstarter, Elite will live again!
Creator Adrian Kershaw [£100] on January 4
@Cowtango I'd love to hear/see a playist of them also. If you manage to find/make one, could you send me the playlist. Im on facebook with same name as here. ty :)

Can anyone list some/all of the music used in the original Elite games?
Thought I might get a spotify playlist together of them all for my ears' pleasure. I hope Ride of the Valkyries gets in the new game:

Will the economic knock-on effects of interplanetary trading include disruptive technologies? For instance, let's say planet A has some unobtanium, and planet B is using plain old vanillanium in the production of some ubiquitous item. If someone takes unobtanium to planet B, will a new type of item now be produced by the industrial sector on planet B? And will the new item behave like a disruptive technology, causing recessions, job losses and all the usual side-effects that such a paradigm shift usually causes?
Creator Adrian Kershaw [£100] on January 4
Thank you David, Michael and the rest of the team for all your the input and work during the kickstarter period. Its been very exciting, not only the announcment of E:D being thought to be made, but also the journey from seeing the funding raise and exceed its goal.
I'd just like to echo what some people have already mentioned. That E:D MUST have Blue Danube and other music that were present in the original Elite, obviously in better sound quality than the original :)
Creator Jamie Armour on January 4
Also, will it be possible to tow a derelict ship to a station if you want to do it up? Or even tow it to a new location to use as a trap/decoy?

Will it be possible to hollow out one of the smaller asteroids and have it fitted it with engines/shields etc? I like the idea of being able to hide out in an asteroid belt. It would also seem like a cheap(er) way to get a vehicle with a big cargo hold, with the disadvantage being the vulnerability of the "craft" once it's shields are breached.
Plus it would add an extra level of uncertainty/danger to navigating through an asteroid belt.
Creator Craig Janssen on January 4
@Paul: Yeah same issue with conversion rates etc.. I know it will be impacting a number of us lol
Creator intrepidis on January 4
Will you be procedurally generating (most of) the textures?
Creator Cosmos on January 4
@ Craig : I think you can via paypal after the KS has ended.
Creator Craig Janssen on January 4
I hope we will be able to add more to our pledges later. Paying in pounds with the conversion add-on is limiting how much I can plead atm. Sucks not to be in the UK or Europe lol
