Hi everyone,
Michael here with today's update. We now have over 17,000 backers and our pledge total is now over £862,000. Good job everyone. As always a big thanks to all of our backers - old and new. Keep spreading the word as wide as you can - we have to make this game!
We have a shiny new video for you today called 'Scavenger Hunt':
David Braben was interviewed on the POD delusion podcast by Kate Russell:

The interview starts at 61:39. Thanks Kate!
Good news on the book pledge T James' kickstarter for his Elite: Dangerous novel jas succeeded. Good work everybody! Each writer's pack pledge is another £4500 towards the game!
In that theme please take a visit to his project "And here the wheel" by John HArper:

A big thank you to everyone and I'll be back tomorrow with another update.
Keep spreading the word!

@steve guns: two ships? I think no (but nice try). Quoting the main questions and answers:
If my pledge tier contains multiple starting options can I choose which one?
Yes, you choose one of the starting options when starting a new game.
Creator David Bond [Mac 1.4m, +10 ships 1.5m] on December 22
I think you get to choose, the more you pledge, the more gameplay options you have
Creator Steve Guns on December 22
I'm a bit confused by these new rewards. If I were to say, pledge for the £37 tier, which states "all the rewards above", would I then start the game with 2 ships (the cobra mk iii from the tier itself AND the eagle mk ii from the £32 one)? Would be very cool but it seems illogical?
Creator Martin Hjerne on December 22
I actually agree with you all. Gameplay is more important than realism. That is why I don't complain about the FTL. Please don't stick me in a quantum bubble :-) As the stardreamer can't exist in a multiplayer universe, I'm afraid more realism will have to go, such as being able to 'skip' the docking sequence. But I was kind of hoping that David Braben, if someone, might be able to bring realism and fun gameplay together in a sweet balance, and not just go ALL gameplay and throw realism out the window. PS I love KSP :-)
Creator cosurgi on December 22
LINUX, LINUX, LINUX!
if you provide linux support I will up my pledge to 80 pounds. And then I will be actually able to play the game. Currently I am giving you 20 pounds, and I even don't know if this game will work on my computer!
Creator Nats on December 22
Very nice video, love the explosions.
Creator Tom OConnell [Blue lights on cop vipers] on December 22
I noticed some artifacts around the edges of the derelict craft, nothing major, excellent video. Some different space craft would be lovely, how about some Kraits and Pythons ?
Creator Tom OConnell [Blue lights on cop vipers] on December 22
Welcome back Ian, we missed you ;-)
Creator AbueloNemesis on December 22
Good video. But please fix the combustion trail starting point, it is an aesthetic killer and (I think) it's not hard to fix.
Creator doa (deleted) on December 22
@Martin
The derelicts could have been caught in the magnetic field of a body (like that moon) and have been orbiting it for years. Its common around another body called Earth at the moment.
I did find the scene of the spacesuit? floating by at 00:40 as a bit of an omen for that scavenger.
Creator Duncan Gray on December 21
@Martin again ... maybe you might like this: https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/
It's neutonian, (and kinda silly) and incredibly frustrating
I''ve got 12 kerbals stuck on the moon now (many more died trying), and I don't know how I'm gonna get them home. Managed to get one ship to blast off the moon back in the direction of earth, alas the poor souls perished before they got back home :-(
Fun game (but very frustrating)
Creator Duncan Gray on December 21
@Martin .. I am a 'hard sci-fi' addict also (read some Peter F Hamilton; awesome author) .. Elite was not 'hard', Frontier was pretty 'hard', and that is what destroyed the game-play. Two ships approaching each other at (inconveivable velocities) just cannot expect to hit each other, and having passed, will take hours to kill the delta velocity and get back into the position of approaching each other again.... that's 'real', but it's not 'fun'
I don't think it can be 'hard' and have game-play .. sorry. I hope E:D wont be another 'Frontier' ... Accurate Neutonian physics = dog-fighting can't happen; any weapon slower than light-speed will miss, missiles are your only option (but only if they have crazy accelaration)
ships need to fly like planes for it to be fun ....
just my 2 penneth worth ;-)
Sorry to disagree (even being a hard sci-fi addict)
/respect
Creator Bromley86 on December 21
Good point Martin. However, I was playing FFE last week on a kickstarter-induced nostalgia trip and, along with combat, the excessive (if realistic!) dispersal of cargo when I killed something was very annoying.
There's simply, unequivocally, not enough demand for an ultra-realistic game. Not at this price point.
Creator Cosmos on December 21
@Martin Hjerne: If there was ever going to be a true 'space sim' you know the one that took years to reach mars there would be very little left for gameplay. A truly great game takes scientific reality and combines it with creative imagination; Elite Dangerous is born. But may I suggest we freeze you in a quantum time pod that traverses both time and reality..
Meanwhile, the rest of us will have conquered the universe of the ELITE>>..
Creator Roland on December 21
@Martin
If you are a realism nerd, I would have more concern about non-Newtonian physics and portrayal of constant-on thrusters, than wreckages :P
I don't think Elite aims to be a realistic Space Sim, I don't think it ever attempted to be one.
Creator Martin Hjerne on December 21
Someone asked for a naysayer, I'll be your naysayer today. After a battle in space, debris and wrecks will be travelling at high relative speeds and be far apart, and the gap will only be increasing as time passes by. When I saw all that debris floating in space, I couldn't explain it. My mind got stuck on trying to understand how it could have gotten to where it was and then stopped at zero relative speed to the rest of the wreckage. Now I'm sorry for being boring, it's really beautiful, but to me, the Elite series of games have always been 'hard', SF, and Elite: Dangerous just keeps looking more and more like it's going to be rather soft. The other video where they were chasing each other in the asteroid belt, they were flying aeroplane style, and the asteroids were really at Hollywood distance and size. I'm still a backer, just expressing my concern, is all. Lots of love.

Elite is on play.com from preorder for PS3, Pc and XBox look Elite 4 they haven't change the name of the game and there is no link to to kickstarter site is there any one can make them aware of this???
Creator Davor Granic on December 21
Sweet video! these trailer updates seem to have effect on pledges. ill w8 till new year to figure should i raise my pledge to 80 or 90.
Creator Joerg Starkmuth on December 21
Only 305 views for the video so far, not increased in the last few hours ... We need to do something to get it promoted on YouTube!
Creator Joerg Starkmuth on December 21
@Chris Handley: Did he really say you can save and reload to undo your own death? (I did not hear the latest interview.) That would be really strange and inconsistent in a multiplayer game. I understood that you get your ship back from an insurance, but the kill remains a kill (except you are saved by an escape capsule, so you actually cannot die in this game).
Creator Martin Hague on December 21
I have been sending this web link to all my Playstations 3 friends to get this game out their, keep up with the updates I will keep sending them out on my Playstation 3 friends list

Creator Chris Handley on December 21
save out = save our
Creator Chris Handley on December 21
Having listened to the podcast: David Braben says he wants us to be able to save out (multiplayer!) game, and then reloading it again if (for example) we get unfairly griefed by another player... but the griefer would still have to deal with the bounty on their head. (I'm assuming bounties are stored on the server rather than in the local save game file.)
This sounds like a dramatic departure from the normal MMO approach, and it will be interesting to see how well he can make it work in practice.
Creator TheMightyBoosh on December 21
Either that was a uber missile or the target ship had no shields ;) Great update - looking forward to tommorow !
Creator JTK [Design Decision Forum] on December 21
Excellent stuff and let us remember that this is only pre alpha!
Lovely creepy atmosphere at the beginning.
Creator Marko Susimetsä on December 21
@Chris: Well, if we can actually go and check the remains of destroyed ships for something to scavenge in the final game like that Viper is doing in the video, I'm willing to accept whatever kind of explosions they choose to give us. That flyby was just lovely. :)
Creator Clive aka Sid49 on December 21
Awesome teaser
I am drooling at the thought of this amazing game, it just keeps getting better and better
Telling everyone i know about it
Good luck guys and well done hope we all get there :)
Creator Chris Booker on December 21
@Marko I for one am willing to have unrealistic explosions if they look as good as that :-)
Creator Commander Kevin Jameson on December 21
Loved the interview! Watch out for Kate! Talk about Elite Dangerous.
Creator Marko Susimetsä on December 21
Lovely! Although the explosion is unrealistic. Should be much faster in a vacuum and more like a flash of energy rather than a ball of flame.
Creator s4ingray on December 21
Excellent job on the video guys!! The interview is also going to help newcomers to understand what ED is all about. Awesome stuff!!
Creator Paul Barker on December 21
guys keep up the good work....... can we get hold of more material, so we can post it. This will help to spread the word!! We want this to happen, and we are all passionate about the cause...... RESPECT..
