Progress Diary #4

Update #46 · Jun 8, 2013 · 19 comments

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the fourth Elite: Dangerous progress diary. In this diary David discusses the roles of the Majestic class Interdictors (Cruisers) of the Imperial Navy. He also answers more questions posed by fans on the Private Backers Forum. These cover NPC’s in the game, naming ships, loading screens, the new Elite ranking system and are celestial bodies following real orbits.

For those of you waiting for concept prints, unfortunately we have to go with a different supplier as the quality was not good enough. We’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible and hope to see some movement within the next couple of weeks. Please accept our apologies for the delays on this, but we wanted to make sure that the prints were of a high quality.

Those of you watching your emails will already know that the seventh newsletter has been sent out yet, if you haven’t seen it yet then you can see it at: http://eepurl.com/AhCNj

Thanks again for watching and if you want to get involved the come visit our forums:http://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=29

Fiction Diary #3

Update #45 · May 23, 2013 · 16 comments

Hi everyone,

Michael here for the third Elite: Dangerous fiction diary. In this video I provide a description of the state of the galaxy at the beginning of the game. My apologies for reading a prepared script, I’m not as practised at this as David – although I may well be by the time we launch :-)

I also answer a few more questions provided by the DDF. If your Kickstarter reward includes DDF access and you haven’t dropped by, then please do so. The DDF is providing valuable discussion and insight that is helping us design the game.

In other news we’ve given the Elite: Dangerous website a bit of a face lift: http://elite.frontier.co.uk

Here’s a new drabble set in the Elite: Dangerous universe:

An Explorer’s Life by Michael Brookes

Some find it too lonely in the unexplored regions. This far out, you rarely meet other ships. Certainly not ones you’d want to meet.

It’s not for everyone, but me? I love it.

The solitude, the thrill of finding the trace that leads me to a new dark system. I’m out here forging a trail that others can follow.

My ship might not have the range of the other explorers, but it’s tough, and I have a trader friend that helps me resupply.

But it pays to be careful. There’re darker things than pirates hidden out here amongst the stars.

So thank you all for watching and I’ll be back in a few weeks with a new update.

Progress Diary #3

Update #44 · Apr 26, 2013 · 31 comments

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the third progress diary. In this diary David answers more questions from fans posting on our forums. In this diary he covers cockpits, music, maintaining ships for long range exploration and the all important question of where he gets his jumpers from!

If you’re a member of the Private Backers Forum and would like to suggest a question then visit our forums and post your question in the questions thread.

In the video David is rather tastefully modelling one of the new backers t-shirts. These have been posted out, along with the mugs and unsigned concept prints. If you’re waiting for a signed print then I’m sorry to say there has been an issue in transit to us, so we’re having new ones sent that David can sign. This should be sorted within the next couple of weeks.

There has been a slight delay with the latest newsletter, but this will be sent out next week.

Thank you for reading and watching, I’ll be back in a few weeks with a new update.

Fiction Diary #2

Update #43 · Apr 10, 2013 · 5 comments

Hi eveeryone,

Michael here with the latest fiction diary. In this video I discuss the Elite story approvals process, the history of the Pilot's Federation and answer some questions posted in the DDF.

In other Elite: Dangerous news we're pleased to announce that the physical add-ons will start going out this week as the deal has now been finalised. We apologise that this this has taken longer than we expected. If you haven't ordered anything and still want to (or you hadn't provided the required information needed for this round) then we will have another opportunity in the next few months for you to do so.

You can still pledge to support the game via our website at http:///elite.frontier.co.uk if you still wish to get your hands on any goodies.

The latest newsletter will also be sent out very soon (hopefully later today!).

To finish this update I've included a drabble based in the Elite universe. Drabbles are 100 word stories, that have to be exactly 100 words. We'll be featuring some from our other Elite authors in future newsletters and fiction diaries:

Homecoming by Michael Brookes

The observation deck was the best place to watch the ships at Lave station. It was always busy with ships from all over the galaxy. Dirk spent every hour he could sat on the bench, his feet not quite reaching the floor.

He watched the ships come and go, marking each on his personal slate. The security guards joked that the boy’s records were more accurate than the station computer’s. But it was one ship in particular he waited for. Seeing the battered old trader he’d leap from the seat and rush to the arrival bays.

His daddy was home.

Thanks everyone for watching, I'll be back soon with further updates.

Michael
