Good work everyone - i go and do some work for an hour or so and come back to find we've smashed £700k - now where's that update?
Creator Johannes Rudolph on December 11
Hi at all. I played Elite First Encounter and loved it. It would be great if the player will be able to control many of ships and build factories ore something like this in the new game.

Sorry, @Si - the first post is on the first page - I sent you the link to page 2 by accident.
Creator Magnus Fohlman on December 11
Hey guys!
One minute ago I pledged for Elite and I just felt like sharing my story. Like many of you guys I´ve played Elite since the beginning of time and I´ve always enjoyed every second of it. however, dispite its flaws I did enjoy FFE even more with the upgraded graphics. But I stopped playing a couple of years ago just simply because the game was outdated and instead I started playing Civilization and Simcity instead. But ever since I´ve stopped playing I did google "elite 4 rumors" once or twice a month or so. Every time I got ever so dissapointed.
Then, one time early November in 2012 I was bored and again typed in "elite 4 rumors" and I actually got a hit for Elite: Dangerous. the link led me to this kickstarter and wow, my heart skipped a few heartbeats when I realised that this was indeed a sequel to the beloved series! It is finally going to happen after all these years!
Suddenly I feel the urge to go back to the old games and start playing again. I remember my old trade route between facece, Vequess and Sohoa in which I spent alot of time doing military missions and trading legal as well as illegal (hrm) goods. I remember the veliaze system which I really HATED going into because of the piracy. A good place to get many kills though.
Now I can´t wait to join the Elite universe again, and hopefully the Cobra MK III is still available and stll as flexible and usable as it was in FFE. Even though the clipper was good for making money, I really loved the MK III.
I have full confidence that DB will make this the game we fans want and I truly, truly hope that this project is getting enough pledges because I have waited soo long for this sequel! This must happen! this is actually the first sequel of my favorite games (Sim City, Civilization, elite) that I´m really, really excited about!

I think Monkey Man bought it in the end for an undisclosed fee :-D

@Si Where is Oddball these days. I did ask him if he could draw a sheep instead of a camel next time, possibly with a small side arm or sword....

Creator Styggron [ELITE VETERAN SINCE 1985] on December 11
@Si it was valid commentary on issues people were extremely concerned on and as different cycles of people came in it continued. Of course someone remaining in there it would appear circular.
Creator Geordie Marv on December 11
@all - Did oddball actually sell that pic? last i looked it was going for about £27 with 7 days left.
Creator Si Waters on December 11
@Phillip Coutts - thanks for the summary! Logged on last night and spent a bit of time reading through and rather than the usual positivity after an update it appeared to have descended into madness
I thought even one of my usual positivity comments wouldn't have got us out of that one so I logged off until now. Glad it's mostly sorted everyone.
Now, can we go back to talking about drawings of camels on ebay?

@Commander Bond
I think what Sebastian Z is getting at is, if you want to sit on the launch pad of a planet and watch a Gas Giant eclipse the sun, or if you want to mine water for three days on some god-forsaken, barren moon, then that is fine also.
Its not all about killing every ship that comes past.
That is why Elite is "better" than any other space sim to-date - Its your Universe :-)
Creator Geordie Marv on December 11
@Chonty - I would assume so. It would seem logical eh!
Creator Gaz Bailey [HappyMonday @FD Forum] on December 11
@Phillip Bit extreme, but I agree that the reaction here overshadowed the news factor of those updates from FD. Whilst this uncontrolled and disorganised forum is the main source of info for those interested in ED,that's bad.
Creator Matthew Benson (AKA "Chonty" in E:D) on December 11
Do 'limited editions' that are 'sold out' become available again, as some people do Jonties (sp?) and move up the pledge levels?
Creator Kim Håland on December 11
@commander bond, they said jumping is based on how much fuel and engine you got :) so no tunnel that way

@Dave Woods - I expect you would find some "brownian motion"
Creator Philip Coutts on December 11
To give a short version of what has happened over the past 24 hours it basically descended into a pantomime based around single player being online or offline and went a lot like this "oh yes it is"...."oh no it isn't"....."Oh yes it is"....etc etc for around 500 posts or so. Thankfully with the help of some coffee, cake and mince pies we seem to have made it through the other side. Although I feel a new mission coming on something along the lines of "The Single Player Debacle" sounds about right. and would probably involve lots of pointless ping pong journeys between 2 planets before finding out the first planet you were on was the right one all along......
As ever no offence to anyone just trying to lighten the mood. Oh and only 176 £20 pledges left......
Creator Stewart Robertson (BBC & Acorn Electron) on December 11
@Michael
You’re responsible for dreaming up and including races and Technology and backing them up with huge details. I always loved reading the plant info on route. So do us proud. I hope you go into things in insane detail.
There is such a rich background from Sci-fi programs and films without plagiarising fully.
For example – Smokers and metal foundries found on most rock planets, Metal extraction can also be found on Meteors to a lesser extent.
What a fun job you’ve got, go watch some Star Wars Original films for some inspiration. Just don’t sell out to Disney ;)
Creator Tim L [Paden on ED Forums] on December 11
ooooooh - only 176 of the £20 pledges left - looking good, they're selling out fast
Creator Geordie Marv on December 11
@Commander Bond - No problem at all. Feel free to look through the comments from either myself or Frontier. It was prob about 2-3 weeks ago mind...so you'll have to dig them out. def. confirmed though. No jump gates...Hallelujah.

As for the 'essence of Elite/Frontier' fundamental question...
For me it's:
1) real galaxy - based on astronomical and science data with reasonably realistic celestial bodies, planet movements, etc.
2) real planets - with atmosphere, terrain and cities/colonies (that means seamless planetary landings)
3) free travel - you can hyperspace-jump to a system in range anytime and anywhere you want (no X-series-like gates!)
4) feeling of unlimited possibilites - unable to define... :)
.
1 - Yes, that I would like
2 - Not so bothered but I can see the appeal
3 - Absoluteky, Most definately, we do NOTwant jump gates!!!
4 - ?

I've been mostly lurking on the site. Mostly!
Creator Geordie Marv on December 11
@Dave "Trotter" Woods - Hey mate, aint seen you for ages man.
Creator Stewart Robertson (BBC & Acorn Electron) on December 11
@Styggron its a saying merely recognising and paying due respect to something on the quiet!
I hope it is not possible to buy equipment for cash from day one in the home system, if it is in the game let it drip feed in the further you advance and explore. You could just have top items and upgrades available deeper out in space so no matter what cash your willing to pay you have to work for the items.
I don’t mind players using real cash as it will probably mean better and more stable servers to play on and that a great thing. Plus the Universe will have to be administered for the look out for hackers and cheats so any spare cash being thrown that direction is fine by me.
Creator Dave Woods [Owner of the Daffy Duck] on December 11
I see there's been some good news to cheer some folks up.
Mange tout, mange tout, as they say in Paris!
Creator taumel on December 11
But let's be real, only a limited single player experience has been confirmed yet. So it's only half of the cake.
Creator Eric on December 11
@Styggron
Well, I can't help you are on here so much. Lots of people I haven't told yet! :p

@Cmdr Bond - any amount is good ... together we will make it.
.
Just need an answer from FD now on the "ask me a Q" ... damn they're slow! :)
Creator Darkmoon on December 11
Good to know that SP will be supported. The way I imagine this working not to have any change in the game client, instead the client would connect to a cut-down local implementation of the server. Modelling it in this way sounds like it would suffer less complications than drawing a distinction between static/dynamic modes throughout.
Creator Styggron [ELITE VETERAN SINCE 1985] on December 11
@Tim Yes I am. MOST definitely.
Creator Styggron [ELITE VETERAN SINCE 1985] on December 11
