A new Daron reward, online chat, guest blogs, oh my!
Daron's Guitar Chronicles Omnibus topped $1,900 a few minutes ago! That means less than a thousand to go to make goal! And 11 days left!
New Reward!!
The first, best news is that I have a new reward that every current backer will automatically get, provided you give me a statement that you're over 18. You see, one of the things I've done a few times during the serial is written a bonus erotic scene that does not appear on the web site. Tuesday's chapter left off with our guitar hero going out to cruise, and Thursday's chapter picks up the next morning.
Enough readers poked me to say "hey! but... but..." that I'll follow the usual policy of anyone making a donation will receive the scene (as soon as I write it). But given that we already have a Kickstarter going on, I made it a new $1 minimum reward level over here, and will also be extending it to the pre-existing backers. That is, as soon as I write the scene. Oh how you twist my arm into writing such degeneracy... *swoon*

In other news, I decided to give this Google Hangout thing a try. So this coming Tuesday, 5pm to 7pm Eastern US time, I'll be hosting a video hangout to talk Daron, 80's music, Kickstarter, web serials, et cetera! That day will kick off our final week of the KS campaign, so I thought a chat would be a fun focal point. We'll see if the tech gods cooperate. I should be able to broadcast the hangout on my G+ profile, so even if you don't have Google Plus you can still see it, and I'll take questions via a few IM services, too. I also blogged at Beth Wylde's Born 2B Wylde blog about how the 1980s don't seem that long ago, but it really is writing historical fiction. Today President Obama endorsed marriage equality for gays and lesbians. In Daron's day, political candidates didn't even say the word "gay" much less advocate for gay rights. I'm not sure whether the guest blogs are bringing in backers, but new visitors to the site increased from a usual rate of 24% of the traffic, to 29% of the traffic, according to Google Analytics. So that's always awesome to bring in new readers. (The low bounce rate and the average time spent on the site--over 15 minutes per visitor--speaks well to the fact that many of them get hooked.)

And thank you, thank you, thank you again, for your support, both financial and moral. The loving attention of readers is a form of validation and gratification for a writer that is wholly separate from money. This is one of the reasons the web serial will stay online and not disappear just cuz there's a version "for sale." That just wouldn't be any fun. Big publishers have different rules, I know. Those are the publishers that wouldn't publish Daron. So I make the rules, and I say, ENJOY.
