Filming June 2012, Danny's Day Trip follows an Iraq war vet, dealing with PTSD, on a one day taxi ride to an Indian Reservation.
Patton's Slap, Combat Fatigue, Shell Shock, Psychoneurosis ...
The terminology may have changed over two centuries but they are all synonymous with PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.
Danny's Day Trip is a full length character genre film that follows a recovering Iraq war veteran on a one day cab ride from Chicago to an Indian Reservation in Michigan. Like many vets today, Danny is managing and living with PTSD. As he struggles with medications and unrealized goals, his day trip to Michigan allows him and Charlie, the cab driver, to explore current social topics.
It's moving, it's ironic, and at times, heart wrenching and funny.
Listen to the Director, Matthew Scott Lloyd, as he tells you what prompted him to write Danny's Day Trip. Click on the project video. You'll hear the personal story of treating the symptoms and how inadequate that can be. This is not a film about war or violence or a documentary about statistics - it's about real people - the people in our lives.
Budget for Filming and Caffeine
We are using this Kickstarter page for Phase 1 of Danny's Day Trip which is the initial filming and basic film production costs: hiring cast and crew, equipment and location rentals, production design, fortifying cast and crew with healthy food and lots of high octane coffee.
Most of the big props have been secured, including the venerable Yellow Cab you see on the project page. Yes, we now own a Yellow Cab with 275,000 miles. So you see - we are already committed to this project. Your contributions will get us through casting, feed and care of the crew and cast, filming the ride from Chicago to the Indian Reservation in Michigan and all of the permits and licensing that we have to have to film a movie as we tow a cab on a two wheel dolly up a Michigan highway.
Phase 2
Launching in July, Phase 2 will cover the final editing, trailer, print and promotion and festival submissions. Our monetary goal for Phase 2 is in the 6k neighborhood. If contributions are exceed our expectations, then we can go right into Phase 2 without having to build this site again. Our ultimate goal is to submit to the major film festivals such as Cannes, Sundance as well as others and ultimately to sell the film for distribution on DVD. However, our first goal is make a REALLY GOOD film with a REALLY GOOD message.

Why are we using Kickstarter? It's fast and efficient and committed to supporting the arts. Kickstarter allows us to reach our network and your network and your network's network quickly and easily. We're good at what we do (see our bios) and we do it very efficiently and we are fast and we are very committed to making this film (see paragraph above about the Yellow Cab with 275,000 miles).
But movies are still expensive to make. They are highly speculative and inherently risky - so if we haven't scared you off yet, look at the levels of support to the right and show the love and pledge today. We have 30 days to raise the funds for Phase 1 of the project. Once we reach our goal there is NO SHAME in going over the goal - only a glory we hope to see! We are allowed to exceed our goal and if we do, then we won't have to launch phase 2 for funding which gives us more time and energy and focus to create a quality movie.
That being said, Kickstarter funding is ALL-OR-NOTHING, so the film has to reach the minimum they've established in order to get any funding for this first go around. If we don't reach the $16,780 then you don't get charged for anything and no one gets a dime, not Kickstarter, not Amazon, and especially not Danny's Day Trip.
So, check out the pledge levels and rewards listed on the right. We will appreciate contributions at all levels! But, we'll really appreciate you if you get to the big dog levels. You can also check out the Masllo web page for Danny's Day Trip film updates and photos and more info about the cast and crew. Check out the donor page to see your name in lights as a supporter of Danny's Day Trip.
What's Next?
The story is scripted, casting is in progress and operationally we are finalizing logistics for a film start date of 15 June 2012. Initial filming will be completed in June/early July. And then we move into Phase 2 of the project - editing and sound - in August so we can complete and submit to the major film festivals nationally and internationally.
So, look at the funding levels to the right and make your pledge now - we only have 30 days - it will be all over by June 1 and will all be starting on June 2! Danny's Day Trip needs your support! Pledge now and check back for updates on the film's progress.
Seriously, you can make a difference and thanks, thanks, thanks and many thanks for your help!
