This event involves original works by local dancers, musicians, poets, visual artists, theater artists, fashion designers and more...
No Name Players, a non-profit theatre company based in Pittsburgh, PA is thrilled to be producing a multidisciplinary event on March 24th and 25th, 2011 in honor of SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day. This event, A Celebration of Pittsburgh’s Women Artists, will involve over 50 local dancers, musicians, poets, visual artists, theatre artists, fashion designers, performance artists, and even a fire-thrower (yes, that's right, a fire-thrower)!
This will be our 3rd annual SWAN Day event. No Name Players usually produces full-length plays, but we are dedicated to producing an event of this kind each and every year to honor the amazingly talented women artists living and working in Pittsburgh! This event brings together artists who don't typically have the opportunity to share a stage by uniting poets and dancers, musicians and visual artists...while at the same time uniting their respective audiences.
We've added a new element to this year's event: We gathered together groups of Pittsburgh’s women to talk about everything that's important to them, what they love, what they fear, what their goals are…basically whatever was on their minds. We recorded these sessions and edited the footage to roughly a 50 minute segment. We asked all artists participating in SWAN Day 2011 to create original pieces using this footage as their inspiration. So the entire event will consist of new work inspired by the thoughts and voices of the women of Pittsburgh.
Participating artists include: Tammy Ryan, EMay, Dance Alloy Theater, Cherylann Hawk, Bodiography Contemporary Ballet, Nikki Allen, Kim El, Melissa Hill Grande, Sheila McKenna, Deborah Baugh, Nami Ogawa, Jane Freund, Anya Martin, Michelle Carello, Marci Woodruff, Heather Ferri, Robyne Parrish, Michelle Stoner, Alyssa Herzog Melby, Christina Farrell, Em Harpp-Meulbroek, Linda Wallen, Casey Droege, Sandra Moore, Cynthia Stanchak, Addi Twigg, Lauren Zurchin, Lindsay Delesandro, Angela Baughman, Becky Thurner, Karen Baum, Lisa Ann Goldsmith, Adrienne Wehr, Nancy Mimless, Alanna James,Tony Bingham, Matt Lamb, John Steffenauer, Sairus Graham-Thrille, Chris Laitta, and Laurel Schroeder.
All donations will go directly toward defraying the cost of moving to a larger venue, the construction of set pieces and props, the purchase of hardware for the visual art displays, and advertising costs.
We are delighted to be producing SWAN Day 2011: A Celebration of Pittsburgh's Women Artists. Please help support Pittsburgh's artists!
