About this project
Earlier this year EyeRomp Films and Be Creative Studios participated in the 48 Hour Film Project with the submission I AM...Excelsior about a disillusioned retired superhero who manages to retain some of his past honor. The film did well, winning some awards and the attention of a few of our own heroes.
We now want to take the concept that we discovered in I AM...Excelsior and expand upon it to create Hero Bar, a comedy series for cable television that will feature film-quality cinematography, professionally-drawn and narrated cartoons, and a composer-scored soundtrack. In order to get this show on television, we first need to create a sizzle reel, a five to ten minute short film to be used to pitch the series to the cable television networks.
Strangers with Candy's Greg Hollimon stars as a bar owner who provides a safe haven for off-duty superheroes (and the occasional villain). Hero Bar will explore (and exploit) the awkward and often disturbing behavior of superheroes after a long hard day of fighting crime. The show will feature a rolling cast of talented Chicago-area actors and comedians as the heroes and villains.
We are currently in pre-production and need $25,000 to produce the sizzle reel with the quality cable network executives demand. We have already brought together an impressive team of industry professionals to start this project:
1. Actor Greg Hollimon (Strangers with Candy)
2. Voice Actor Ken Scott (Animal Planet, WLS Radio)
3. Film and Television Composer Kurt Gellersted (Bizarre Foods, Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations)
4. Artist Jeff Dee (Dungeons & Dragons, Villains and Vigilantes)
5. Comic Book Writer Jack Herman (Robotech, Villains and Vigilantes)
We have also assembled a talented crew for pre-production, production, and post-production. EyeRomp Films owns most of the camera, sound, and grip equipment we will be using. This includes a Sony PMW-F3 Super 35mm Camera Rig that will allow us to exceed cable television standards for picture quality. Owning the equipment will allow us to focus our funds on paying actors, crew, wardrobe, special effects, transportation, artists, editors, music, sound design, and insurance.
Presently, we are almost ready to begin shooting. A script is complete, a crew is assembled, and only a few more heroes and villains need to be cast.
Please consider funding this project. We are confident that this concept will be picked up by one of the cable networks, and we hope you will be a part of its creation. Thank you.
FAQ
-
Unless we reach our $25,000 target Kickstarter will cancel the project, and no money will be raised. We will attempt again with a less ambitious production, by cutting scenes and re-writing, if we are unable to make target.
-
Hero Bar will utilize cartooned motion graphics and epic narration to illustrate battles, and scenes that would be too expensive to produce. The majority of the show will take place on location with actors and a camera crew.
