Bringing audiences and artists together to discuss things that matter, things that disturb, things that art is best at digging into.

THE EVENT

Transforming a wonderful, yet woefully underused, downtown venue (a 3400 sq. ft. former performance space currently serving as a storage locker), Barnstorm will invoke the original 19th century European cabarets to bring audiences and artists together in an intimate and seemingly “off limits” setting. People will physically mingle in a variety of spaces; they’ll trip over each other; thumb their noses at one another and engage – however indirectly – in a dialogue about things that matter, things that disturb, things that art is best at digging into.

More than just a place to be entertained, Barnstorm will create a space where artists, audience and community can enter into dialogue that challenges the social, cultural and sexual status quo and inspires contemplation of a future without injustice. The art presented will be diverse, provocative, and encourage audience participation in order to generate conversation.

THE SPACE

The inaugural Barnstorm event will take place in an empty storefront centrally located in the heart of Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood at 1927 Third Avenue. This location provides the necessary square footage (3400), ease of access (located on several major bus routes), and steady stream of foot traffic. Plus, it is already a destination for individuals seeking to go “out on the town.”

Most importantly, this space is an inspiring blank canvas, upon which we can create exactly the environment needed for the participating artists who applied to be a part of Barnstorm.

THE NEED

As you can see from the video, our space is a wonderful blank canvas ready for paint (and stages, buildout, lighting, sound equipment … and everything else you can think of).

We HAVE the humanpower, skill and network of resources to pull off this construction project. We just need help with the shopping list:

Your donation rents the sound equipment needed to support a musical about the waste of plastic.

Your donation buys lumber to construct a stage that literally supports a dance about environmental needs.

Your donation buys tools used to construct an installation about the fear of death.

Your donation rents the tables and chairs which allow patrons to keep the dialogue going after a performance has ended.

Your donation purchases the brackets to hang paintings illustrating the Tunsinian experience.

Your donation finds the supplies to transform the space temporarily into a Kabuki Theater.

Your donation is Barnstorm. Big or small.

Your donation is the GLUE that holds all the pieces together.

All donations are tax deductible.

THE PLAN

Artists are in place; the location is set. Now, it is time for us to roll up our sleeves and make the space come alive. As a collaborative partnership of three organizations, (Rainy Night, The Heroes and quiet) we have an able team of volunteers ready to jump into action. We need your help with supplies. This is a chance for you to see your donations immediately at work as we only have until May to get the space ready.

Most projects are usually geared toward one kind of art. Consider Barnstorm a smorgasbord with over 20 different artistic projects that you can support all at one time.

Help us make a space where art, change and community shine.

From your fellow collaborators,

Quiet Heroes on a Rainy Night
