Chicago 8 is a small gauge film festival that is dedicated to exhibiting experimental works on Super 8mm film.

The Second Annual Chicago 8 Small Gauge Film Festival (C8FF) is coming in October 2012. C8FF was created to celebrate small gauge filmmaking and champion the filmmakers who continue to bravely work in these delicate mediums. 
Our goal is to keep small gauge filmmaking alive, to encourage further activity in this format, and to provide an opportunity for these rare gems to be seen by the Chicago community. C8FF offers a unique event for Super 8 filmmakers to exhibit their work in its original format, and for viewers to experience the joy of seeing Super 8 films as they were intended. By fostering a continued interest in Super 8 as a viable, affordable, and a uniquely personal way in which to explore image making, we hope to inspire the next generation of small gauge filmmakers. 

During last year's fest, we screened over 80 films by 50 filmmakers.  Entries came from Canada, Taiwan, Ireland, Brazil, Japan, The Netherlands and the US.  We were absolutely delighted to have visiting filmmakers join us for our 2011 festival, and look forward to having even more in attendance this year. 

After a successful first year, we still need your support to bring this small gauge film festival back to Chicago. With your help we will be able to

 

  • purchase permanent projection equipment

  • pay for the return shipment of artists' films 

  • cover operational costs and printed materials
