MICHAEL is a short film about a boy whose father died before he was born on the Lockerbie Bombing of Pan Am 103.
MICHAEL is an NYU narrative thesis film written and directed by Harry Bainbridge and produced by Claire Brooks and Rachel Velazquez. The narrative thesis is the capstone to an undergraduate film degree, and our chance to demonstrate our storytelling and filmmaking capabilities.
We strongly encourage you to visit our website for the most accurate picture of the scope of this project!
To give you a taste of the directing style and vision of Harry Bainbridge please take a look below at SLICE. It is a short film made the same director, in his same home town, and with kids from the same school, we plan on shooting MICHAEL at.
ABOUT THIS FILM: MICHAEL
Twelve year old Michael Bardelli's father died in the Pam Am 103, Lockerbie Bombing, just before Michael was born. Michael did not grieve over the loss of his father, for he never knew his father to begin with. He never felt deprived, strange, or different than others with both parents.
Yet, on an otherwise normal autumn school day, the school psychologist, Mr. Murdoch, pulled Michael from an all school meeting. He sat him down, and said sternly: “There has been a large crash.” On the morning of September 11, at a boarding school tucked away in the Berkshire Mountains, Michael struggles to comprehend the complexities of mourning and loss. He struggles to understand the expectations of grief and the fleeting sense of community any traumatic experience creates. Based on Harry's own life story, MICHAEL is a daring short dramatic film that examines how one adolescent boy copes with a multiplicity of life's disasters.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
Short films may be smaller than their feature length counterparts, but they still cost a lot! We have a talented crew on board and we are currently casting professional actors. We are fortunate that both groups will work for free in exchange for housing, meals, and the wonderful opportunity to be a part of this production.
We have a steep fundraising goal to reach before Michael goes into production at the end of June. With your help and support, we are confident that we will reach this goal! Your donation will help us to rent quality professional film equipment, to safely transport our equipment and crew members, and to ensure the aesthetic of the production design with props, makeup, and costumes.
SUPPORT LOCAL FILMMAKING
Harry is dedicated to supporting and fostering interest in filmmaking in his hometown of Lakeville, CT. We are shooting this film on location at a boarding school in the area. We are all excited about working with local business and their owners to make sure that the community benefits from our production.
In addition to actively recruiting local students and talent for MICHAEL, Harry recently went to the area and shot SLICE, a short film with only local students at Deano's, Harry's favorite local area pizzeria. Donations of $5 will receive a hi-res digital copy of SLICE, as seen above.
MARKETING AND DISTRIBUTION
We plan on entering Michael into numerous film festival competitions both in the United States and abroad. Your donation will ensure that this film reaches as many people as possible.
If you think you or your business can help outside of monetary contributions, please reach out to us. We are very willing to accept In Kind Donations in the form of catering, props, costumes, and so much more. If you are interested in donating in this way please send an email to email@example.com
MAKING THE TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATION
Michael is fiscally sponsored by fractured atlas, a non-profit organization that serves a national community of artist and arts organizations. Fiscal sponsorship is a financial and legal system by which Fractured Atlas, a legally recognized 501(c)(3) public charity, provides financial and legal oversight for a project. That project is then eligible to solicit and receive grants and tax-deductible contributions that are normally only available to 501(c)(3) organizations. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation, please send an email to the executive producer, Claire Brooks, at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will send you detailed instructions.
Harry, Claire, Rachel and the entire Michael team appreciate your help, and together we can produce this poignant dramatic film and share the story with people across the world.
*Digital downloads of SLICE will be available in just a few short weeks. Digital downloads of MICHAEL will be available after the film is completed and entered into competitions! This is in compliance with the rules and regulations of the major film festivals.
