This Kickstarter campaign is functioning as a pre-sale book order. The proceeds will go towards covering the costs of producing my artist book, STILL LIFE.

In my work I have taken a lot of inspiration from the tradition of still life painting.  Many of these paintings used pointed symbols, or vanitas such as candles, glasses, flowers and timepieces among other things to consider the transient nature of life and describe the private and social lives of people of that time. 
I’ve been locating symbols like these in present-day advertisements and using them as source material for paintings and works that are directly on magazine pages, exploring the philosophical origins of still life artwork that still resonate in our consumer culture.  By isolating and transforming the images, the remnants of the ads also reflect issues of status, class, celebration and escape, perhaps not so different from some of these works that were made as long as five hundred years ago.

The book will be made up of a selection of these altered magazine pages.  Soon after I started this body of work I began to consider turning it into a book and realized that this incarnation would be a perfect direction for the project to take.  The book format lends itself to the anticipation of narrative, however these pages will work with a more fragmented narrative giving the pages alternative meaning and new ways to be read.

It's really important to me that the people who are making this project happen be able to at least get the finished product (the book!).  With this in mind I am discounting the retail price of the book for this pre-sale fundraiser.

• $3,900  -  Production of the book - 300 copies. 40 pages, oversize (10"x13"), offset printing, perfect bound, paperback cover with double gate-fold

• $1,200  -  Costs for editing, layout design and print proofs, registering ISBN#

• $900  -  Production of rewards and shipping of rewards and books

All funds exceeding my goal will go towards producing a larger edition of 500.

$600 or more:  Get a signed copy of the book + this portfolio of THREE 10x13" inkjet prints (signed, limited edition of 5)
