Cast in tones of deep purple, the ULTRAVIOLET deck is futuristically designed with an industry standard attention to detail.
ULTRAVIOLET is a new deck of playing cards produced by beta17: a Minneapolis based design and production studio. The studio is run by Patrick Burke and Ethan Soper, professional Graphic Designer and Videographer by trade, card nerds and best friends for the last 3 years. We both love futuristic design and sci-fi aesthetics, so it made a lot of sense to put our skills in making those things into a deck of cards. Thus the ULTRAVIOLET deck was born.
We're both very fond of minimal playing cards like Smoke&Mirrors by Dan and Dave, Wynn's by Bee, Jerry's Nuggets etc... We came up with a minimal design that features high attention to detail, a deep purple color we think is highly underrepresented in cards, and draws heavy influence from science fiction and modern graphic design.
We set out to do something entirely new in playing card design with the front of the ULTRAVIOLET deck. Basing our design on minimal typography and grid systems we've developed a totally new way to display suit and value without losing any functionality. Did we mention how good it looks during flourishes?
The Faces have also seen a complete overhaul. Heavily simplified, the face cards have been altered to match the grid system of the rest of the deck for an entirely custom design.
The tuck case has been furnished with all the same attention to detail that we put into the cards themselves, also printed in a deep purple, the tuck case compliments the deck perfectly.
We've been a part of the cardist community for a few years now and rest assured; we wouldn't let this deck run without everything you've come to know and love from other industry standard players. Air cushion finish, performance coating, high quality paper stock. The cards will be printed at the USPCC (United States Playing Card Company) to the highest specifications.
We have also designed a complimentary minimalist fine art print at 13"x19" to go along with the ULTRAVIOLET deck, it features minimal typography, modern grid systems and elements from the deck itself. These are hand signed and numbered and limited to only 50 pieces: get them while you can!
