Let's make a record together! Help me finish and release my first solo album!
Late one moonless November night in 2010, I chased a group of songs through a cornfield and in the morning found myself in a recording studio in Lancaster City. On the floor beside the mixing board, the songs were kicking and squirming, tied up in a burlap sack to prevent escape. Some of the songs are misfits that have been hanging around for a year or more, unwilling or unable to play nice with their cousins in the Vinegar Creek Constituency repertoire; others are brand new. They range over a diversity of styles, but one thing all of these songs have in common is that they're eager to be heard, felt, enjoyed, and sung along with.
Since that first day in the studio I've been hard at work creating an album I'm very proud of and crazily excited about. I truly believe this to be some of the best, most fully-realized music I have ever made. I've been able to do this thanks to A LOT of generous help from my friends, among whom I'm lucky enough to count many of the finest musicians in Lancaster, New Jersey, and parts beyond. My friend Chad Kinsey (formerly of Burning Bus, currently of Loretta Bilieux Band) has been invaluable as producer and engineer.
Here's the thing: Independent musicians are not renowned for their wealth, and I've gone pitifully broke in the process of funding this album. I can no longer do this on my own. With the help of kickstarter.com, I'm asking my friends, family, and all those who care about or feel some connection to the music I make to partner up with me in getting this album into the world. ***I WILL MAKE IT WORTH YOUR WHILE*** Not only am I confident that you're gonna love this album; in exchange for your donations (even 1$ will help!) I am offering a variety of cool rewards. This is the artistic free market at its best and most personal, folks. I have almost finished tracking (recording) the album; here's what we need to do:
-Mixing: We've pulled out all the stops to get superior sound quality and performances on the record. We need some expert knob twiddling to make it all shine like a silver dime.
-Mastering: This arcane but oh-so-essential process includes making volume levels consistent and much more; it's a job for a serious pro.
-Production: Pressing the album to CD with great-looking cover art and professional packaging.
**IMPORTANT, PLEASE NOTE: The amount I am setting as this project's goal is the BARE MINIMUM I can use to squeak this through, and in accordance with kickstarter's ALL OR NOTHING funding requirements, if we don't raise the full amount in 7 weeks I will get NOTHING. On the other hand, if we do achieve the minimum, there's no need to stop there! The more I raise, the better this project can and will be.
Thanks, friends, for believing in me at lest enough to read this far. Let's make an album!! -Leo
