Greetings friends and supporters of the "Pop Yeh Yeh research project"!

I know I haven't posted an update in a while, but the wait is finally over. I received notice last week from one of my contacts in the Pop Yeh Yeh community in Malaysia that the final setlist that I sent nearly seven months ago has been cleared (after they diligently contacted every available artist, composer, and lyricist in their network of friends and peers.) 

Only one song was removed from my list, so that's a pretty good percentage. And I feel much better having waited to get this approval. 

The wait has been seemingly endless, and I can hardly tell you how anxious I have been, but the time has finally come! 

I received cover art templates from Sublime Frequencies last weekend, and now I'm just editing the liner notes and arranging artwork to include on the covers. 

There is also a slight possibility that the compilation will be released on double vinyl AND compact disc. That is entirely up to the label though.  I will keep you all posted on that. 

In other news, the editing for the documentary film is slowly but surely progressing.  This is really hard work but I'm following a disciplined schedule, and I've got some great help from local film professionals.  I am working nearly every day on this as well. 

In case you haven't checked my blog recently http://menarigogo.blogspot.com  , I have continued to post updates about some of the artists I met last year. Sadly, two have passed away since my visits with them. I will always cherish the brief time I was able to spend with them. This film and compilation is my tribute to their inspiration and generosity, and I want to do the best I can to share their words, music, and memories with all of you.

I'm so happy!!!!

We've finally met the goal of my Kickstarter project to go research 60s Pop in Singapore and Malaysia! All I have to do now is pick a travel route, and go there!

I really want to create something beautiful and inspiring out of this opportunity to bring world wide appreciation for this genre, and renewed interest and respect for the artists who created and performed this music.

I intend to use this funding honorably and responsibly. I know you've all donated to this project because you support everything that is so beautiful and inspiring about the music and culture of Malaysia and Singapore.

Thanks to all of you, I can finally allow myself to really get excited about this trip, because now i know it's really going to happen!!

Regarding Pop Yeh Yeh..this music is amazing!!! ( and btw, most of my favorites are sung in Bahasa Melayu - a beautiful language itself... )

I am really hoping to get in contact with these artists... to help share this rockin stuff with YOU and the rest of the world! : )

Did i mention that I have very recently confirmed some connections (addresses, phone #'s) with some of the many surving artists who actually sang and played on my favorite Malaysia and Singapore 45s from back in the 60an (60s in Bahasa) ? I was so exited when i got these emails a few months back. All i have to do is go and meet them in July!

Ive been so lucky to find people like you who are inspired by this music as i am.. and who want this project to succeed! THANK YOU SO MUCH

& also to all of you for spreading the word (esp. Xeni and everyone at BoingBoing!)
