Wyrd specializes in making documentary and essay films about the fantastic genres: science fiction, horror and fantasy.
The production company was formed in 2007 by William Janczewski, James B. Myers and Frank H. Woodward.
Prior to Wyrd, Woodward and Myers produced DVD featurettes for Anchor Bay Entertainment (including "Masters of Horror" Season One).
Woodward went on to write the SyFy Channel movie "Black Forest" which is currently in production.
Myers spends most of his spare time as an 80th level Troll Deathknight.
Janczewski was the CEO and acclaimed creative director of Unbound Studios whose work in animation and interactive games earned awards for clients such as Disney, Fox, Nickelodeon and Mattel.
Wyrd’s premiere documentary was LOVECRAFT: FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN, a chronicle of author H.P. Lovecraft's the life, work and mind. The film featured interviews with Peter Straub, Neil Gaiman, Guillermo Del Toro, and John Carpenter.
LOVECRAFT premiered at the 2008 Comic-Con in San Diego where it won Best Documentary Film. It went on to screen at festivals in Montreal, Buenos Aires, Port Alegre-Brazil, Park City, Portland and Los Angeles. LOVECRAFT is currently available on DVD & Blu-Ray.
Wyrd's second release is THE SPLAT PACK. This film looks back at the first decade of 21st Century horror movies and the filmmakers who were dubbed "The Splat Pack" (including Eli Roth, Darren Lynn Bousman, Neil Marshall and Alexandre Aja).
Wyrd is currently in production on two new documentary films including MEN IN SUITS and a look inside the counter culture of steampunk.
Awesome! I'm very excited for this project; the sooner its finished, the better as far as I'm concerned. :-D
Let me know when you're when you are going to doing the next funding campaign (either on here or on Facebook) and I'll help spread the word, and throw in as much cash as I can spare too! Good luck!
Hey Jordan - We'll be making it to Japan one way or another. Obviously having a budget with which to do that would be nice. Especially since we would like to gather as much footage from Tokyo as we can. It's not just the actors we want to see. It's the overwhelming love the Japanese have for suit actors and kaiju in general. We think that's important to feature in a documentary like SUITS.
When we do the next campaign, we'll be a bit more focused and aggressive in getting the word out. I, like you, really thought we'd hit our goal. I still do. We've been getting some great suggestions from people who have done this before and plan to take their advice. So look for SUITS to return soon.
Dang it! I really hoped you'd hit the $9,000 mark. I guess people don't really care who's in the monster suits these days? (CURSE THEM!) There's still 35 hours to go, so who knows, maybe some generous benefactor will step in and help you hit your goal. (Crossing my fingers here....) Out of curiosity, even if you don't hit your goal, will you still make the trek to Japan and interview the greatest suitmation actors of all time?!?!!
Thank you, Tracee! It's been a fun project so far. Still much to do including this proposed trip to Tokyo. I can't wait to show everyone more
This is an absolutely fantastic project. I've always wondered about the wo(men) behind the monsters! The clip alone is fascinating and well done. Best wishes to you...Tracee Loran Scott
Fantastic! I took the liberty of posting about your documentary on my website's Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-B-Movie-Film-Vault/)as well as in my Forum (http://www.bmoviefilmvault.com/forum/YaBB.pl…). Hope that helps some more!
Thanks, Jordan! We're huge rubber monster fans as well having been raised on ULTRAMAN and Toho films. I think Godzilla was my first monster so making this documentary has been nothing but good times.
The trailer looks fantastic! I am a diehard rubber monster fan (Godzilla is my childhood hero) and this looks like it will be an amazing documentary. I hope you can pull off the $9,000 goal!
