About this project
The Bear Show: Reading Adventures for Children is a live interactive stage show that energizes children’s interest in literacy. The show is performed by the Reading Bear who leads children on an adventurous storytelling. Using props, sound effects and costumes, the audience becomes part of the story. The show concludes with a hilarious game show about books and two original songs. The grades targeted for the show are K - 5.
For over ten years my program has been showing the benefits of active reading. This Fall I am launching a tour from Alabama to Maryland and that’s where I need your help.

My pledge goal is for $6,500. This would be a fine start to get the ball rolling on promoting the show and getting the equipment needed to make the show better. I would be ecstatic to raise more. Each backer on the Sponsor Level will be a gift to a School so they will not have to cover the cost of a performance. The more backers I have the more schools I can visit. Please help me reach as many children as I can this Fall.

LYRIC SHEET of SONGS FROM THE BEAR SHOW There are two original songs in the program that are written specifically to promote active self-selective reading. “The Book Reading Rap” and “Read a Book Today”. The words of each song inspire Children to reach out on their own and find books and authors that capture their interests. At this Backer level you will receive a 11 x 17 hand written parchment lyric sheet to each song. These two pieces are suitable for framing or to hang by themselves with some thread. This is a rare and wonderful addition to your room, library or classroom. It’s sure to motive to many.

PUPPETS and COSTUMES from THE BEAR SHOW Over the years there has been a growing collection of puppets and costumes that have been used in shows. Some have worn down from the amount of use or have just been improved and replaced. At this Backer level you will receive an official puppet or costume piece used in THE BEAR SHOW. These are sure to be talked about stage pieces for your home, office or classroom. There are lion tails, gorilla masks, elephant ears, people puppets and more. You are getting a piece of THE BEAR SHOW that you can display in your home or office, use in your classroom or church. Perry born and raised in Takoma Park, Maryland. His late Mother encouraged him to follow his passions for theater, singing, writing and art. Her mantra was "Chase after your rainbow"and that's exactly what he is doing.
The Bear Show was created in 1999 while working as a substitute teacher at J.C. Parks Elementary School in Waldorf, MD. From a simple request to put together a show for Read Across America Day. Using a bear costume purchased from the closeout sale of the 1993 Mickey Mouse Club, the Reading Bear was born. The show was a huge success with the students. Teachers spread the word about the show and requests for the program began to come forth. That's when Perry knew that this was something special.
He brings experience working as a Film-making Teacher at Walt Disney World and Drama Teacher.
Comedic and singing talents from several “fun” gigs including being the Line Entertainer at Planet Hollywood - Orlando, acting at “The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular”, “Arabian Knights”, Universal Studios, onboard Premiere Cruise Lines and to the 2006 Los Angeles Festival of Sketch Comedy.Performed with comedy troupes Captured Aural Phantasy Theater, The Strait Jacket Society and The Musical Theater of Los Angeles (2009 NAACP Theater Award nominee – Best Supporting Actor – Ragtime: The Musical - Booker T. Washington).
