About this project
Salaam literally means peace and is an Islamic greeting. Therefore the title of this documentary is Salaam America. Wishing peace upon somebody is a brilliant way to start a conversation so why not use it to start a new wave of tolerance and understanding?
As a Muslim American myself, I am aware of the difficulties, challenges and also the beauty of growing up in America while practicing Islam. But what people fail to realize is that there are so many different Muslims with so many different stories to share.
I will be traveling to many cities, meeting with lots of Muslims from a variety of different backgrounds and spending time with them to see what life is like as a Muslim American. We want to enlighten and be enlightened by spending time with different individuals as well as families to get some insight into their day to day lives. What Islam means to them, what they think about recent controversy about Islam, if they feel safe in America to practice their Religion and also what they like to do for fun, their favorite hang out spots, favorite music, favorite foods and more. A few of the many cities I'll be going to include Philadelphia, Washington DC, San Fransisco, Dallas, Miami. We also will be meeting with Non-Muslims as well to ask them what their views are on Islam.
The funding needed is strictly for filming equipment and travel expenses and as mentioned in the video proceeds will be going to Relief efforts in Pakistan. We will keep you updated on this as well.
Before the actual documentary is complete, I will be making video entries from each city and posting them on the blog www.SalaamAmerica.tumblr.com to keep everybody updated on what's happening. There will also be other updates on that website. We also have a twitter account if you'd like to follow us on there! http://twitter.com/SalaamAmerica
Thank you ever so much for your time and please do not hesitate to contact us at Salaamamerica@gmail.com.
