THE FARMBAR 

THE FARMBAR is a restaurant and retail concept we developed to launch in the right region, at the right time. Having spent a number of years scooting around the US + Europe, my partners and I have edited our best-loved foods + lifestyle goods to house in the vintage spartan landcraft and a repurposed shipping container.  

Charleston, SC will be our anchor.  A city rich in culture and commitment to supporting the local food economy, we are eager to share in the development of Charleston's Upper Peninsula (UP) and burgeouning creative corridor.

Inspired by the way we live and entertain, the vintage spartan will be our first architecture installation in a series of ongoing, simply curated hospitality spaces.  Both permanent and temporary, traditional and rock-n-roll, serving simple local fare with respect to the slow food movement.

THE FARMBAR 1949 SPARTAN LANDCRAFT

The silhouette and structure of the spartan beast is simply extraordinary.  It predates the beloved airstream, and has tremendously unique characteristics that are unparalleled.  Our first FARMBAR project is to bring this stunning piece of art back to life.  

Working with a longtime friend and art collaborator from the San Francisco Art Institute, Kurt Lebeck, we have reinvented the Spartan to become a permanent architecture installation.  Kurt's vision and expertise is simply jaw dropping.  His company, Cabezon Design Group based in Brooklyn, will transform the space using 'drop' materials in metal + wood, open up the ceiling with a swath of glass, build-out a stainless steel kitchen and restore the reflective aluminum exterior.

In addition to becoming a working kitchen, the Spartan interior will have a banquette for seating under the panoramic window, built-in shelving to peruse periodicals and market goods, and a secret trap door to house moonshine from Kings County Distillery.  The outdoor seating + lounge space will be curated by Mark Sage (the re-imaginist himself) with his one-off vintage finds.

THE FARMBAR shipping container is a retail companion to spartan landcraft. Broken down into simple edited selections of our must-have lifestyle goods + market food. several categories will be permanent, while other categories will pop-up + rotate throughout the year.

DEUX PUCES/TWO FLEAS FARM

We are living on 4 Acres in Awendaw, SC on the intracoastal waterway to grow food for THE FARMBAR menu.  With plans to increase our goat herd, grow vegetable crops, raise layer chickens, honey bees + two jersey cows, harvest fresh seafood from Bulls Bay and open our farm for special events. Deux Puces (or two fleas) Farm is a small + magical spot of land.

THE FARMBAR spartan landcraft will be permanently installed at 1600 Meeting Street in downtown Charleston, SC.  We are extraordinarily fortunate to be included in Kate + Lindsay Nevin's vision to transform a vacant historical trio of buildings from 1926 into a work space for creative professionals and innovators.

THE GOAL + DONATIONS

We have decided to start with a modest goal of $26K for the second phase of the spartan build-out.  This will cover the undercarriage work up to the subfloor, ordering kitchen equipment and laying down the crop beds to grow food for the FARMBAR menu.  To complete the project from start to finish we will need to raise an additional $150K, so we are hoping to exceed our goal!    

If we achieve funding for phase II, and beyond, we will post a rolling log of expenses, photographs + milestones on Instagram.  We would like our support community to have full access to how donation dollars are applied, and how the impact of a five dollar donation can truly make a difference.

SENZA LA RICETTA

Senza La Ricetta is a Cooking Without Recipes book written by Tara Derr Webb. One of several donation incentives for our kickstarter project, this cookery book will be available in December of 2012 and guide the reader through freestyling in the kitchen.
