transforming. PUBLICLY. a new series of body-based performative installations by sound/physical artist, PARIS HURLEY.
hello! first, i would like to thank you for being here with me in this virtual space! and second, i would like to tell you that i live in seattle, washington and have played the violin for 23 years!
i am seeking your help in gathering a handful of tools essential to a crucial time in my development as a multi-dimentional artist. including (a)...
- laptop
- video camera
- pickup / preamp (for the amplification of my violin)
- folding music stand
- stand light
- zoom 4-track audio recorder
- shoulder rest (for my violin)
- violin strings
- fitted earplugs
these tools will be used in the creation and presentation of transforming. PUBLICLY. a series of body-based performative installations centered around an excavation of personal wounds and the deep dichotomy of wanting to hide, yet needing to be seen.
the development of this work is currently unfolding through a 2-month residency at seattle's PROJECT: SPACE AVAILABLE (january/february 2012), supporting the cultivation of my voice as a movement artist, installation artist, and composer.
i have been an interpreter for many years, but my relationship to myself as a generator is quite new... while in the space, i will be in a daily practice of improvising, generating, reviewing, (and sometimes codifying). through this practice of free and informed experimentation, i am working to break old patterns / associations, discover new forms of expression / manifestation / aspects of self, and develop my personal voice. the ability to document this process in multiple forms feels imperative...
your support is GREATLY appreciated!! even if you aren't in a position to contribute financially, your voice and your story are invaluable to me. throughout this residency, i will be posing lots of questions investigating aspects of the shared human experience. if you would like to participate in this process, visit the links below regularly!

deep gratitude...
IT IS AN HONOR.
**i would like to add a very special thanks to beth fleenor / the frank agency, jherek bischoff, vanessa dewolf / PROJECT: space available, and bruce tom for being amazing humans, dear friends, and making this all possible.
