About this project

UPDATE:
We finished the recordings last Sunday with The Orbz and have been mixing it since. It is going to be a great inaugural EP for this project. With 10 days left, it is now imperative that we come together and push this fundraiser to the successful side. With a physical CD, funding in the future will not be an issue. The next step will be to take this first EP to local businesses and ask them to support their arts community by sponsoring the next volume or volumes. Eventually, we would like this project to be a means to fundraise for local artists' albums and I think that is the truly exciting part of all this. Imagine local music being produced through funds generated from this project- i.e. the local business community supporting local artists who, in turn, support them. It's truly a sustainable model for the local economy and arts scene.

This may all happen once there is a physical product with which to go after sponsorship dollars. This is why STL LOUD needs community support right now. Help us make sure these first two EPs are pressed and you will have done a great service to local music, hopefully, for years to come!

STL LOUD began as an ambitious goal for St. Louis music. It was a “What can we do with what we have, and how?” situation. Since writing about this multi-faceted question on our website a few months ago, the response has been tremendous, and we realized that growing the local music scene was and is on the minds of both artists and fans alike. Our proposal is a network, or community, of St. Louis music and musicians that supports itself and grows together, with the eventual goal of making our city a destination for artists from elsewhere to perform, create, and develop in the Midwest landscape.

The first step in the LOUD plan is a series of local EPs to be released every three months, featuring unreleased material, recorded and produced by R&R Music Labs free of charge and then distributed around town in the form of pressed CDs. Each EP will be officially released at a showcase. This gives each band or artist the opportunity to play to the other bands' audiences, and gives you, my fellow St. Louisans, the opportunity to hear music that you may not yet be aware of. Each EP will also be in digital form and available for download to facilitate the dissemination of STL music through the web.

We built R&R Music Labs in 2007/2008 with the goal of furthering music in St. Louis. Since then, we've been searching for the best avenue with which to do this. Enter: STL LOUD. We hope that this is the first step in what will be a sustainable, local music community that can grow together and take advantage of STL's unique scene.
