Backdrop for opening scene of 30th Annual Nutcracker
As Peoria Ballet begins rehearsals for our 30th production of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker, we are reaching out to the community to help us fund the purchase of a new backdrop. Production costs continue to rise and the rental cost of our opening backdrop is now more than $700 annually. We own or have made most of our other set pieces and backdrops and we need your help to purchase a new one that will become a permanent part of the production. We are reaching out to everyone who loves dance, or who has made the Nutcracker (ours or one in your own home town) a part of their holiday tradition. If you have ever danced with us as a guest or a student, we want to hear from you. If you know a dancer here and can't be here to watch them, then show your support for the art they love by making a pledge. If we meet our goal, we can have a new backdrop hand painted in time for the 2012 performance on December 8th and 9th. Remember if we don't meet our goal by November 2, you won't be charged. If we exceed the goal, all proceeds will be used for the production, costumes, or other set pieces. All donors of $25 or more will be memorialized on the reverse side of the backdrop so all future dancers with Peoria Ballet will be reminded just before they go on stage of the support this community has shown us through 30 years of Nutcrackers and 47 years in Peoria. Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
One potential risk is the deadline for completing the project is very close. The manufacturer needs up to 4 weeks to create the backdrop and our performance is scheduled for 5 weeks from the end of the fundraising campaign. We plan to keep a daily watch on the campaign and if it appears we are likely to make the goal, we'll contact the manufacturer. If we cannot get the backdrop completed in time we will work with the manufacturer to see if they will allow us to use the previously rented backdrop for this year at little or no cost while they make the new one. The other challenge we face will be getting the names of our donors painted/printed on the back before the performance as this will be done by our volunteers. We have a huge family at the ballet and more than 100 faithful volunteers who we hope will help us overcome any of the challenges.
