I thought you all might like to see a few more images of before and during the installation in the White Gallery at La Napoule.
I am back in Oakland now and I am hoping these photos will give you a sense of my process at the La Napoule Art Residency. In France I collected vast amounts of plastic waste washed up on the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea as well as from merchants and people living in the town of Mandelieu La Napoule. I purchased a heat gun and iron to fuse and manipulate the plastic gleanings. Every storm seemed to bring more plastic bits to the beaches. My work is in France ready to reinstall for August 2013. I am hoping to also hold art workshops in August 2013 with groups of children from the area in connection to my artwork. I was greatly influenced by the decor in the Chateau de la Napoule with its Baroque Iron Work. Thank you again all for your generous support!!!
I have two more days to go in this productive and wonderful residency. We are finishing work to be exhibited here in France in August 2013. Your support and generosity has made this possible. It's quite amazing to have a month of uninterrupted art-making. Did I mention that I have been living in the castle? The Mediterranean Sea is such an inspiration.
Thank you all for making this residency possible!!
I have been making models, sketching ideas, and I'm starting to organize the packing, and shipping details. VIVE LA FRANCE!
As I prepare for this exciting venture I continue teaching Art to Middle Schoolers and working as a Museum Educator. I can only say that every year there is an overwhelming enthusiasm and great excitement about ART-making and discoveries.
