About this project
Critical Praise for The Gathering:
Wired.com: "....The fourteen black-and-white stories in this collection are very short, only two pages long. They’re loosely centered on the idea of hope...The styles of the stories vary widely and so do the concepts, from very realistic settings to superheroes but the compliment each other despite such diverse work...Emboldened by the success of their first volume, they’re already putting together more and are open to submissions for those, in case you have any ambitions similar to the impulse that created this comic in the first place.
Aint it Cool News: "...Though the only tying theme of this anthology book is a love for the comics medium, this book does have a lot going for it...It's a safe bet you'll find something that strikes a chord with you on some emotional or intellectual level. There's a strong independent voice coming from this one. Here's hoping there's enough support for more issues of THE GATHERING."
Gail Simone (Writer of Secret Six and Birds of Prey): "First, there's no trash in the book. So no worries. And there are LOTS of gems. There's real potential throughout the book and I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of these people end up doing a lot more comics. I hope they do....LOTS of these pieces would not be out of line in a pro book amongst veteran creators."
Weekly Comic Book Review: "Anthologies can be tough to review, because you’re essentially judging the whole by the sum of its disconnected parts. It’d be one thing if these parts all hit pretty much the same level of quality, but more than likely they’ll swing wildly between the extremes of great to terrible, and everywhere in between. Ultimately, the question you may have to ask is: do the best pieces make up for the worst. Thankfully, you don’t have to ask this question today (or at least, I don’t), as the newest volume of The Gathering delivers an overall solid effort from all its contributions..."
About The Gathering
The Gathering is an ongoing self published anthology that allows for writers and artists new to the comic book field an opportunity to have their work published. Each issue of The Gathering focuses on a specific theme. The first issue was 'Hope', the second 'Despair', the third 'Heroes' and the latest volume is 'Horror'. Future themes include 'Romance', 'Myth', 'Science Fiction' and 'Western. Professional comic creators such as Gail Simone (Secret Six, Batgirl), Sterling Gates (Supergirl, Hawk and Dove) and Glenn Greenberg (Spectacular Spider-Man) have also lent their time and talent to short stories.
Over 100 different creators have contributed or are in the process of contributing stories for The Gathering and we're hoping to continue publishing (and offer more opportunites) well beyond 2011. The successful financing of this project will allow us to experiment with different formats in the future including continuing story arcs and self contained issues as well as offering many more up and coming creators an opportunity to have their work featured in future editions
If we reach our goal, the money received will go to help offset printing costs to publish the book more frequently, the creation of promotional materials as well as covering fees for attending trade shows and comic conventions.
Thank you for taking a look at our project. Please visit www.grayhavencomics.com to learn more about The Gathering and check out or four ongoing web comics: KID ROBO, DEcomPRESSIONism, DARING SPECULATIVE FICTION and AOI SAYONARA

I have been a freelance writer for a number of years working on projects for both Marvel (Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe) and DC/Eaglemoss (DC Super Hero Magazine) publications as well as Random House (Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia). I'm also a life long comic book fan who has long hoped for the opportunity to publish my own work and help other creative minds do the same. GrayHaven/The Gathering is the opportunity for me and other creators to see their imaginations reach the printed page. The projects successfully funded by Kickstarter have allowed me to expand GrayHaven beyond anything we could have hoped for back when we first started.
