A learning experience
Hello All,
I'd like to offer everyone a quick update on the project. As with many films, even on the studio level, sometimes everything can go right and quickly unravel with almost no warning. About 3 weeks before I was planning on traveling to Minnesota, our Producer, a key member and important part of the film running smoothly, was forced to drop off the project due to personal reasons. After scrambling to replace her, I was unable to find a suitable replacement in the timeframe, not to mention feel comfortable about replacing such a key member of our crew that close to our shoot date.
While I only blame myself for not being prepared for something like this happening, I was incredibly surprised to learn how much a Producer is needed for making a film operate and be successful. It seemed impossible to continue with shooting without someone stepping into that role. It was with extreme disappointment and deliberation with the rest of my crew that we should delay the film until next year.
While my excitement to make the film now was at its highest, I realized that this is just a minor setback and that another year might be beneficial to have. After all, it only gives us more time, potentially more income, and now with the knowledge of how easy things can fall apart, be more prepared for such occurrences again.
So that is our plan: Wait one more year and shoot in the winter of 2014. We are going to try to push the script into more places than we did before, enter it in competitions and try to raise buzz on it. We are going to try to grow our budget even larger. I'm walking away from this experience not defeated but confident that we found out one thing that wont get in our way again. I wanted to write this so that all of you wonderful people who contributed to this project don't feel like your contribution is going to waste. None of our budget has been spent and I plan on keeping it safe until it can be used for this project.
I wanted to thank all of you as well. Your contribution made this project possible in the first place. I did not want to squander it and rush into the film with any sense of unpreparedness. Quality is the upmost importance. One more year will only bring us closer and allow us to focus on how to do this right.
Thank you
Brett Price
