We're building a karaoke rig on a cargo bicycle so that we can sing our hearts out anywhere, at anytime. It's pop-up karaoke!
Washington, D.C. is the new epicenter of bicycling - and home of District Karaoke, D.C.'s first-and-only team-based, competitive karaoke league.
District Karaoke is dedicated to building community through karaoke - singing is a fantastic way to introduce people to each other and have fun.
So, we thought, why not combine bicycling and karaoke in an #epic mash-up? Inspired by this guy in Berlin who outfitted his Larry vs. Harry cargo bicycle with a karaoke system, we decided to take the District of Columbia by storm and create our own version of a mobile karaoke system. We'll be able to take the bike to such iconic locations as the National Mall (among others) to celebrate this unique, democratizing art form.
More, we've already got help to get the bike and build the rig, courtesy of the American Larry vs. Harry distributor and the Daily Rider bike shop (a local small business on H Street NE in D.C.).
With this rig, we'll be able to take karaoke on the road. In Berlin, over 1,000 people congregate each week to take part in public karaoke - in D.C., we can certainly outdo that!

We are excited to finally bring this project to fruition. The hardest part of this project isn't acquiring an adequate bicycle, nor is it building a suitable rig for it (we've gotten support to build one), instead the hardest part is identifying the proper equipment and power sources to bring the rig to life. Fortunately, we have friends who have already built and mounted high-efficiency speakers systems onto their bicycles. So, with their expertise, we're confident that this tech challenge will be overcome.
At the same time, we have spent the last nine months running a successful karaoke company. We know what it takes to have an idea, design a concept and then implement it. We look forward to working with local organizations to share the joys of our karaoke bicycle throughout the District of Columbia.
