Piezoelectric Love is a multi-disciplinary, multi-media theater experience that explores the extraordinary life of Marie Curie.
Piezoelectric Love: The (half) Life of Marie Curie is a multidisciplinary, multimedia theater experience that explores the life of one of history's most fascinating women. Two-time Nobel Prize winner, discoverer of radium and coiner of the phrase radioactivity, she was obsessive, passionate, poetic and driven by the need to understand the nature of matter. No matter the obstacle, be it the male dominated fields of physics and chemistry, the never ending annoyance of the parasitical reporters that fed on celebrity gossip, or the devistating loss of her soul-mate husband, she persevered and ultimately changed the way we look at the material world and ourselves.
Our play will not only bring to life the most intimate moments of Madame Curie's life, but also follow the history of atomic and nuclear science from the discovery of radioactivity (a word coined by Curie,) to the Manhattan Project, to modern uses of radiation as cancer therapy.
Our theatrical style will be highly interactive and eclectic. We will use masks, dance, storytelling, clowning, circus arts, acrobatics and traditional dramatic scenes to provide a total theatrical experience. We hope to bring humanity to scientific themes and inspire a new generation of young people (especially women) to take a deeper interest in science.
This show is being conceived and developed by company founder Jeff Mills and written by Valerie Slitor. Original music composed and performed live by Jim Connolly. Lights designed by Chris Turner. Costumes designed by Kira Gold. Choreography by Christina McCarthy. Masks by Lindsay Rust.
