"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."
This story starts with our name. Jem's Gardens was created twenty years ago by mother and daughter, Ellen and Jordan Marouski. Jordan and Ellen Marouski's Gardens quickly became a local "jem" providing the area with our fresh produce. Something that is very important to us is homegrown, local, food. At the farm stand there is a great sense of community and family. This farm stand consists of three people.. Ellen, Jordan and Dave, who do all of the planting and other work. Our vision is to turn this place into a real local gem. We have a building and a good portion of machinery and we want to serve the community with a new twist on dessert. What we want to do is simple. In addition to the healthy fruits and veggies that we currently offer we would like to provide yummy frozen yogurt served with fresh fruits to our customers. We would also love to be able to bake homemade pies using our fruit as well. Considering the only dessert and ice cream places in the area are mostly chains it would be nice to turn this spot into a real town treasure. We have a great location with plenty of land but we have put all of our funds into trying to expand this business. We are at a complete stand still because we have no money to move forward. We have a building that has been certified and most of the equipment apart from the frozen yogurt machine and an oven. We would also love to build a greenhouse because it would have a huge positive effect on the amount and variety of plants that we could grow. Jem’s Garden and Dairy Barn :)

Now that you know a little bit about our story we can tell you exactly what we want out of this project and what we are envisioning. What we have is a farm stand that sells fresh local produce, a barn transformed into a kitchen, and room to grow. What we need is a frozen yogurt machine, an oven, and some start up materials.

Imagine this: Sitting outside at our quaint, little farm stand complete with hand crafted picnic tables made by our neighbors and twinkling little lights shining on the patio. The welcoming scents of cinnamon and nutmeg all around because here, you can buy homemade pies. Fresh and warm and a la mode. We want to make our pies out of the produce that is currently in season at the time. We have the recipes and the know how to make all of this happen.

Some of our ideas are:

Strawberry and strawberry rhubarb pies throughout the month of June!

Blueberry, peach and blueberry peach pies throughout July!

Peach and peach raspberry pies throughout August!

From September through December, the fall apple crops will be the star. Along with pumpkins and sweet potatoes!

We would like to make our own whipped cream to go along with the pies we serve

here and we also would like to keep as many of the products we use as local as possible. Also any paper and plastic goods used would be recycled or compostable.
