What is the best way to break down a stereotype or alter perceptions? For years, I have worked with my partner and friends to try to put a positive and informative face on the gay and lesbian community but there is one aspect of our community that is often forgotten - THE GAY ATHLETE.

Often marginalized, hardly covered in the mainstream press and quickly forgotten in the LGBT press, the hard work and efforts of the gay athlete is often painted in stereotypes or worse simply never acknowledged - as if they don't exist.  WE WANT TO CHANGE THAT BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE IS DOING IT.

WHAT DO WE WANT TO DO?  A 6-month ONLINE LIVE STREAMING SPORTS PROJECT WEB SERIES (starting July and ending Dec, 2012).  Every month, there are dozens of LGBT sporting events occurring across the country put on by hundreds of organizations, associations and team clubs.  WE WANT TO FILM LIVE every month, one major gay and lesbian sporting event. This is TV style multi-camera filming and broadcasting with play by play analysis - sharing the triumphs, telling the stories & portraying the gay athlete in a professional & athletic way.

WHY DO WE WANT TO DO IT?  In order to alter the perception of the gay athlete or to break down the stereotypes, you have to see the players in action - playing tennis, soccer, softball, flag football - using skills, talents and team work to win the game.

WHAT SPORTS & EVENTS? 

• Hockey - June - Chelsea Challenge (New York City Gay Hockey Association);
• Basketball - July - Texas Capital Classic (National Gay Basketball Association);
• Rowing - August - US Masters National (Chicago Rowing Union); 
• Softball - September - North American Gay Softball Tournament;
• Flag Football - September - Gay Bowl XII (National Gay Flag Football Association);
• Tennis - October - Florida Cup Tennis Event;
• Bowling - November - IGBO Mid Year Tournament (International Gay Bowling Association);
• Tennis - Jan, 2013 Art Deco Open Tennis Event.
• Not including June, that's 7 events just to start (and there is so much more out there - we would love to cover it all).

HOW ARE WE DOING IT?  We want to create a 4 man "mobile on-the-road" production team that can travel, film, produce, edit and stream live video from any event that we are at.  Our current goal will allow us to use software tools via a computer workstation and SD cameras to do the broadcast.  IF WE EXCEED OUR GOAL, we want to use Tricaster hardware tools, HD cameras & mobile "internet everywhere" transmission packs - to super size our production values and truly be able to broadcast anything, from anywhere in the country. 

NO ONE (and we do mean absolutely no one) OUT THERE IS DOING LIVE VIDEO STREAMING OF GAY SPORTS!  WE WILL BE THE FIRST!!

WHAT IS NEEDED? 

• 1)  Upgrading live broadcasting software tools, upgrading computer workstation & upgrading camera gear;
• 2)  Secure, reliable & mobile streaming network;
• 3) Travel budget to get production crew to each event &
• 4) Marketing budget to get the word out about the live broadcast.

IF WE EXCEED OUR GOAL?  We can truly take this labor of love and turn us into the ESPN of gay sports.  We want to extend the web series by another 6 months.  We also want to change from a software based live environment to a hardware base live environment - and trust us - with this one piece of tool + "internet everywhere" transmission pack - We can bring you the quality and style of the big boys, the network guys - and bring a level of programing for gay and lesbians sports that has never been seen online before.  THAT IS OUR ULTIMATE GOAL.
