This film is loosely based on Emille Alphonse Griffith who was an openly gay NYC boxer that killed another fighter for calling him gay.

What's up everybody? We want to raise at least three thousand dollars to get this project off the ground. With the funds for this film, we plan to start shooting as soon as possible (early March while it's still cold) and get two weeks, at the least, of footage.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS: If we reach our goal by the deadline, "The Main Event...in America" project will be funded, you will get stuff, this movie will get made, and all will be right in the world. If we do not reach our goal, we will get nothing, and you won’t be charged anything,

WHAT DO WE NEED MONEY FOR? Moviemaking is pretty complex, and takes a great deal of resources. Even though we’ll be working with volunteers and getting a lot for free, we need a budget set aside for the following items : • CASTING. We’d like to be able to cast professional actors, and likely bring them in from out of town. That means airfare and lodging for the duration of the shoot. One of the larger items in our budget. • TRANSPORTATION. We’ll have to rent a truck to move our equipment and will likely need to relocate the crew multiple times during the shoot. • PRODUCTION DESIGN. We need to bring the world of the script to life. That means bringing in props and furniture to flesh out the environments, fashioning the right clothes for our cast and even building sets for areas that we can’t film on location. • LOCATION FEES. Finding the right locations will be critical to realizing the look of the film. In addition to shooting permits, we may need to rent a space, hire security, and pay for insurance. • CATERING. We’d like to keep our crew hydrated and well nourished. They’ll be volunteering their time and effort into this film - the least we can do is provide sandwiches and snacks. • MUSIC. The tone of this film is delicate, and rests entirely in the hands of our composer. We’d like to score this film right - and that will likely require the recording of live instrumentalists.

Can we exceed the goal?

YES! This would truly be amazing. Exceeding our goal would allow us to make a better movie. Kickstarter will allow as much money as is given before the deadline. This is only the beginning of our journey with this film, we are not in pre-production yet. We have set our goal at the low end so if we were able to exceed it, it would be a dream come true and it would allow us to get more of the film done.

Can I increase my pledge once it’s been made? YES! Once you donate to our campaign, you may want to change your incentive reward to a different one, or increase your pledge amount. To do so, go to Kickstarter and sign in. If you go to our campaign page, the green “Back This Project” button has been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click it and you can enter a new amount, or choose a new incentive. Can I Gift An Incentive? YES! That’s very sweet of you. If you would like to donate to the film but give the reward to someone as a gift, go through all the normal process of making a donation in your name.

Who does the money go to? Every penny (minus the fees for Kickstarter’s involvement) will go directly to the “The Main Event...in America" movie budget - i.e. Your money goes directly to the funding of this film.

I'm not in the US. Can I still pledge to projects? Yes. You can pledge from anywhere.
