What does a woman with a gun mean to you?
Does Sarah Palin, Amy Bishop, Annie Oakley, or Angelina Jolie first come to mind?
Or is it your mother, girlfriend, or the neighbor next-door?
A GIRL AND A GUN is a feature documentary that explores the complex relationship between women and their guns. Filmed throughout America, this documentary delves deep into the psyche of the American gun world, capturing its transformation from subculture to mainstream as women arm themselves in rapidly high numbers.
Penetrating far beyond Hollywood’s hyper-sexualized gun-toting goddesses, this documentary candidly portrays the modern American woman through intimate portraits that revolve around fundamental issues of preservation, power, feminism and violence.
We have been developing A GIRL AND A GUN for just over 4 years and we’ve been fortunate to have an amazing team of people supporting the project based on their interest in our story, the footage, and the topic itself. We have come a long way and now we are very close to completing this film.

We want to complete this film in time for Spring 2011 festival submission deadlines but this will only happen if we raise funds by DECEMBER 15 so we can continue working with our amazing editor and finish remaining pick-up shoots. MORE ON THE FILM: The narrative follows four women whose lives have been irrevocably touched by firearms. A Bronx social worker substitutes pistols for her loss of physical power; a gun-control activist from New Jersey reversed her stance on owning weapons after a stray bullet paralyzed her daughter; despite losing her brother in a hunting accident, a Tennessee nurse sees her own hunting as the ultimate way to provide for her family; a graphic designer from New Hampshire survived a violent rape in her thirties, and when she was viciously attacked again – she was prepared. “The second time, I had a gun.”
These journeys interweave with an eclectic cast of experts and supporting voices shaped by historical and pop-cultural imagery, photographs, advertisements, Hollywood clips, and the voices of scholars, historians, feminists, gun-rights activists, gun-control activists, and pop-culture critics who have been following this topic for decades.

[DIRECTOR/PRODUCER] CATHRYNE CZUBEK. A winding road from the Midwest through the South finally brought me to NYC, where I’ve been capturing the city streets ever since.
On a photo excursion in Maine, when a group of young girls challenged me to set down my camera and feel the essence of the guns they were shooting, I couldn't argue. What began with a simple invitation from a young girl, a slight pull of a trigger, lured me into the fascinating gun culture in America that I naively thought was far from my own story.
[PRODUCER] JESSICA WOLFSON has produced many critically acclaimed documentary films and series including TRUST US THIS IS ALL MADE UP, CRAZY SEXY CANCER, and award winning web series GIRLTALK. At IFC Original Programming, Jessica developed and produced documentaries including THIS FILM IS NOT YET RATED by Kirby Dick; WANDERLUST by Bob Pulcini & Shari Springer Berman; THE BRIDGE by Eric Steele and series GREG THE BUNNY and DINNER FOR FIVE (2005 Emmy nomination). She has worked in theatrical and DVD marketing and distribution. Jessica is currently in production on three documentary films RADIO UNNAMEABLE, A GIRL AND A GUN, and REVENGE OF THE MEKONS.
[EDITOR] KRISTIN RODRIGUEZ grew up in Texas where she directed her studies towards architectural design and film. Her passion for documentaries and editing ignited after she moved to New York where she further pursued her education in film at NYU and The Edit Center. Her work as Assistant Editor includes such noteworthy projects as THE DEVIL CAME ON HORSEBACK, Martin Scorsese Production VAL LEWTON A MAN IN THE SHADOWS, and 2008 Whitney Biennial art film A LETTER ON THE BLIND FOR THE USE OF THOSE WHO SEE. .
In the Editor’s chair, she has had the opportunity to work on both film and broadcast projects such as THE RECRUITER, MOVING MIDWAY, as well as news journal episodes for DAN RATHER REPORTS.
Hailing from the Catskill Mountains, [ASSOCIATE PRODUCER] WHITNEY HENRY-LESTER''s curiosity has taken her from equine videography in California to health care in Melbourne, community radio in Ecuador, and of course, shooting ranges in NYC. She began her documentary work on HBO and independent films, but seduced by sound, she has since turned to focus to audio. Most recently, she spent two years managing a StoryCorps Mobile recording booth, traveling around the country recording the stories of everyday Americans. When not chasing her curiosity, she's hiking mountains or making breakfast.
