Truth & Consequence records new music in October, the audience becomes the producers of their next recording by attending the live recoding session..
Truth & Consequence is a Philadelphia based octet which features some of Philly's finest young musicians. We have recorded 2 CDs and in October will be midway through a American Composers Forum, Subito Grant funded, year long-monthly concert series featuring the debut of over 20 new works. My compositions have been awarded grants and featured excellent, world renowned musicians like Odean Pope & Bobby Zankel. Our goal at the midway point of this concert series is to record the new music we have been performing. We have chosen to do this as a concert, where the proceeds pay for the recording but also allow the audience the unique opportunity to attend the recording session while becoming the producer of the music. This will create a Coop between the musicians and the audience.
On October 16th (6 & 8:30pm) & 17th (11am & 1:30pm), 2010, the Jazz Octet, Truth & Consequence, will record 11 new works at the Buckeye recording studio in South Philadelphia. All attending will receive a copy of the finished recording and a thank you for contributing. People who simply donate and can't attend will also receive a copy of the CD and can sponsor a guest (or student) who can attend.
The Buckeye is a large and comfy studio and will accommodate 30 guests per set, Truth & Consequence will perform 4 sets, sets must be purchased individually to attend. All monies will be applied to paying for the studio time, musician fees, mastering costs & production costs for the CD. One set on Sunday will be dedicated to bringing in young music students (with parent or guardian) to the show, these are students studying Jazz already, who study at Settlement Music School, The Clef Club or privately with members of Truth & Consequence.
The band members include Larry Toft, Doug Hirlinger, June Bender, Bart Miltenberger, Matt Davis, Mike Taylor, Behn Gillece & Scott Macdonald.
"The album is joyous, engaging and inspiring. Peterson is a consummate composer, and his 10 piece group plays the complex and dense arrangements with aplomb. But despite its myriad harmonies, melodies and chord progressions, its also a very visceral, emotional album, able to be appreciated by the master artist and lay fan alike." Katherine Silkaitis, Philadelphia Weekly, May, 2009
"the evocative blend of jazz freedom with pop melodicism was fully evident. At times the result brought to mind Elephant 6 re-imaginings of the Ornette Coleman songbook." Shaun Brady, Philadelphia City Paper, June 2007
"Always a sucker for good reedwork, I was consistently thrilled by the playing of Dan Peterson, an unmistakably advanced player in control of the rare tall and skinny beast that is a contra-alto clarinet." Michael Anton Parker, Bagatellan, Dec. 2005
local saxophonist wunderkind Dan Peterson's spring-loaded solo on Ayler‘s “Ghosts” was hot... "
Ken Weiss, Cadence, April, 2010
