Hey there Kickstarter community, allow us to introduce ARCADE44.TV, a multi-platform online network and video magazine featuring creative people in music, art and fashion.
As co-founders, Fataah Dihaan and Angela Cravens have been consistently humbled and amazed by the incredible work of all of our Arcade Players—both on the site and behind the scenes. Now we’re appealing to the Kickstarter community to help us continue to celebrate this good work.
ARCADE44 started back in December ’08. As artists operating in the realms of television (Fat worked at MTV) and magazines (Ang was Executive Editor at Trace Magazine), it all began innocently enough as a conversation about where media is going… where will emerging and independent artists have a platform in this new terrain…
What does a magazine for the new century look like?
Fast-forward to March 2010. After countless late nights, early mornings, and a healthy dose of blood, sweat and tears, we launched with a handful of stories and a lot of excitement. Since then, we’ve done some pretty cool things:
· UK singer Jessie J treated New Yorkers to an impromptu performance in the Union Square subway station.
· Sean “Puffy” Combs shared some of his personal mission, describing what it means to him, as an African-American man, to see his billboard on Times Square.
· Designers Simon Spurr and Timo Weiland chatted about their modern approach to menswear.
· Hundreds of our fans and friends gathered for a CMJ-week concert at the Bowery Hotel, with Millionyoung, Brahms, and Evan Voytas.
Meanwhile, a community was born. It’s a community that is growing. Arcade44 now represents six continents.
We are consistently motivated by a desire to highlight diversity and celebrate original work. We’ve been among the first to feature artists like Cut Copy, Haus of Gaga’s Asher Levine, Local Natives, Natalia Kills and Theophilus London.
We’re gearing up for a busy fall of more artists and innovators, and we need your help to bring these stories to light in all their greatness. The 20K that we are attempting to raise with Kickstarter will immediately go towards realizing video content and creating more live events.
Most importantly, this money will directly support young creatives across the globe. We will be able to highlight the artists you want to hear, while compensating the artists we collaborate with to produce both site and story.
We want our community involved every step of the way, and hope that our planned events will bring us offline and interacting with each other in real time. Of course, after the fact, we’ll be able to re-live it all through video!

Kickstarter is a crowd-funding site that supports creative projects. They have a unique all-or-nothing funding model, which means you ONLY get charged if our project is successful. You will not be charged until the last day of the campaign, if and when we reach our goal. If the goal is not reached, no money changes hands.

The Kickstarter funding will go directly towards our fall content which we will begin shooting immediately after the Kickstarter campaign. The funding will support the artists, filmmakers and writers who work to create the site. You’ll see it realized in the form of video shot in Europe and in NYC. We will also be creating at least one major event which will feature live music and the chance to connect offline at a fantastic NYC venue. Less glamorous but no less important, the funding will keep the motor of Arcade44 humming in the form of legal fees, technical support, and other day-to-day operations for the rest of 2011.
