Amber Waves is a 1000 ft. landscape art install of wheat that at seasons end will provide a harvest that supports area food shelves.
Amber Waves is a landscape art installation that flows across the land on the banks of the Mississippi River in the heart of downtown Minneapolis MN. For one-thousnad feet, three rows of wheat will gently arc and crisscross one another in a form that mimics the shape of the mighty Mississippi as it cuts through Minneapolis. Viewable from many locations including pedestrian bridges up and down river it is the perfect site for a large installation of this nature. Located between the University of Minnesota east and west bank campuses the project will also be an educational tool as well as artistic study for university students and faculty.
The end of season wheat harvest is milled and the bread is baked by area bakeries, close to 1,000 loaves will be delivered to Minneapolis, St Paul area food shelves. It is called "the art the grows and gives." From art lovers to those just looking for some summer fun, something a little different on the urban landscape, and finally a harvest that makes it's way to area food shelves with a helping hand to those less fortunate.
It's a win-win for everyone!
Amber Waves is sure to be a destination exhibit for 2012!
This project is a follow-up to the 2011 project "The Long and Winding Row" which received critical acclaim across the state of Minnesota with face book fans across the U.S. as well as nine foreign countries.
