This Halloween, help an unemployed Dracula and Frankenstein's monster publish their first cartoon book!
Hi. My name is Wil Panganiban I am a cartoonist. I am here on kickstarter to promote my cartoon book project, Frank and Steinway.
The recession has hit everyone hard. No one is safe, not even the most cherished and respected icons. Frank and Steinway is the story of two of the most legendary movie monsters, the vampire, Count Dracula, and Frankenstein's monster, being laid off due to studio budget cuts. Once famous and secure, these masters of horror find themselves unemployed and entering a world scarier than their own, the REAL one.

Frank and Steinway is a webcomic that has been appearing regularly on http://www.gocomics.com/frank-and-steinway the same place where you can find old favorites like Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes, as well as new and undiscovered ones, like mine.
For most of my life, I wanted to become a published cartoonist. I was indirectly syndicated many years back, but found myself sidelined by my main career in Game Development. After a very, very long hiatus, I've come back to pursue that long delayed goal.
Having been laid off once before, I found a strong kinship to the projects titular characters. They represent the struggles that many of us are going through to find balance and stability in this tumultuous period. No matter their previous status, they find themselves having to eek out a living the best way they can.
I recently entered Frank and Steinway in a comic strip contest, sponsored by a major newspaper syndicate, and was a high finalist. Its great fan response and contest finish has motivated me to take the next step in bringing Frank and Steinway to the general public. My plan is collect the first year of the comic strips and print them all as a black and white trade paperback (with color covers). That's over 100 pages of comics to keep you entertained!

Frank is Dracula. When he was laid off, he lost the rights to that name. The studios now own it. Everybody assumes Frank is Frankenstein, but I was trying to play against type. So, I named Dracula Frank and Frankenstein's monster something else.

It's a question of economics and what I can get from Kickstarter. It's my first book, so naturally I wanted the best for it. But then I checked around with a few printers and found the full colored book waaaay beyond my financial capabilities. Asking for that much on Kickstarter might scare pledgers away. So, I had to settle for black and white and offered to give the colored version as a pdf download.
