About this project

I am trying to record my first studio album. This project has been a passion of mine for several years and I am overjoyed that it is now coming to fruition. So far, I have eight original tunes and an original tune from one of my band members. The music for this album is modern but well grounded in standard jazz and, while I enjoy (and employ) the experimental and improvisational side of the genre, this record will not be Avant Garde.

In order to finish this project, I have almost completely cleared my gigging schedule. The extra time has been (and is being) dedicated to straightening out the arrangements and rehearsals with the band. The downside to the cleared schedule, however, is the loss of cash flow.

The studio is booked and the musicians are ready…So what’s the problem? Well, my group is made up of top notch musicians, all of which are local professionals; therefore, I need money to secure their time. Even though they have really worked with me by discounting their rates, it adds up. The majority of the money, of course, will go to studio and duplication costs.

This recording means a lot to me and I want it to be the absolute best that I can make it. Thank you for any support you can give even if it’s just good thoughts.

Chris Hodges

Straightpin , AL

Though barely out of his twenties, Chris Hodges has been performing in the southeast for over fifteen years and has lived in Atlanta and New York City. His eclectic background of rock, pop, hip hop, blues, classic rock, bluegrass, and jazz allows him to fit in with and add to any music he happens to sit in on. As a studio bassist, Chris has logged hundreds of hours behind both electric and double bass. Whether laying down grooves for hip hop or playing with a pick on a hard rock track, Chris is in his zone. Though still active in all styles as a freelance bassist, Chris has dedicated his attention and studies to jazz and classical music. Chris has studied under some of the region’s most prolific players and writers. He has been awarded several scholarships due to his playing and has held down the head bass chair at University of Montevallo and Troy University. The drive that Chris possesses as a band leader is clear when you see his band perform. Whatever the incarnation may be, you can be sure the group is well rehearsed and well prepared. He chooses only the best musicians for the job and knows each one’s strengths and limitations. Chris truly is one of the hardest working musicians in the area. He is a thoughtful yet strong leader that cares about his musicians which makes his musicians care about him. This makes for great on-stage chemistry and a constantly evolving performance.
